Baseball playoffs roundup: Mira Costa, Redondo will meet in second round

The Redondo Union baseball team started fast Friday against Burroughs of Ridgecrest in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs.

The visiting Sea Hawks scored five runs in the first inning and then survived a rally by Burroughs in the seventh to hold on for an 8-7 win.

Taehan Kim and Keiji Hattori each went 3 for 5. Hattori also scored three runs. Riley Park, Jackson Sola and Angel Camou had two hits apiece.

Jack Green went five innings on the mound for the win. He allowed four hits, four runs, walked three and struck out four.

Redondo will face a familiar opponent from the Bay League - rival Mira Costa - in Tuesday's second round. Mira Costa defeated Arlington 8-6 in the first round.

In the regular season, Redondo swept all three meetings against Mira Costa.

Division 5

Bishop Montgomery 5, Cerritos 0: Michael Flink allowed just three hits and struck out six as the Knights won their first-round game on the road.

Aidan Yamashita drove in two runs.

St. Bernard 4, Rancho Verde 3: The Vikings rallied from an early three-run deficit to win their first-round game.

Lennex Minor pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, with two walks allowed and four strikeouts. Tyi Wolfe pitched 3 1/3 innings

St. Bernard visits Bishop Montgomery on Tuesday.

Division 7

North Torrance 5, Baldwin Park 1: Sei Nagashima went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Tanner Okawa drove in two runs in the first-round win.

Mason Matsumoto pitched five innings for the win. He allowed three hits, one run, walked four and struck out seven.

North will host Grace on Tuesday.

In Division 8, Chadwick, which defeated Vasquez on Wednesday, will visit Marshall on Tuesday.

Division 9

Lennox Academy 18, Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica 8: Zebedee Haro hit a home run and drove in five runs and Carlos Diaz Morales had two doubles in the win for the Panthers.

Lennox will host Dunn at West Torrance Field in the second round.

Ambassador Christian 5, United Christian Academy 4: The Lions scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh of their game at Wilson Park.

The Lions will host Rolling Hills Prep on Tuesday.
