Watsonville soccer talent Diego Guillen signs with Centralia College in Washington | Local Roundup
Watsonville High soccer talent Diego Guillen has signed with Centralia College, a community college in Centralia, Washington, that offers athletic scholarships.
The Trailblazers went 2-16-1 overall in 2025-26 under first-year head coach Garret Wenrich, 2-12-1 for fifth place in the Northwest Athletic Conference's West Region standings.
Guillen, a senior forward, has the opportunity to make an immediate impact.
Guillen, who was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Pacific Coast Athletic League's Mission Division, finished the year with team-leading totals in goals (24) and assists (23).
He helped the Wildcatz (22-2-2, 11-0-1) win the Mission Division and Central Coast Section Division II titles - their 13th section crown - as well as their first NorCal championship. They also advanced to the inaugural state championships in Sacramento, but suffered a 1-0 loss to Los Alamitos in the final.
High school softball
At Aptos 6, San Lorenzo Valley 2: Junior Kalina Healy had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored for the SCCAL champion Mariners in their league win on Thursday.
Senior Cara Allshouse and sophomore Gwen Vaca each had a hit and run scored for the Mariners (21-4, 14-0). Juniors Izzy Baker and Emma Burgueno, and freshman Ella Jacobs also scored.
Senior Ray Alvarez and junior Grace Purtscher each had a hit and one RBI for the third-place Cougars (11-10-1, 8-7). Sophomores Bailey Filice and Elie Colby each had a hit and run scored.
Junior Mya Najera-White earned the complete-game win, and Purtscher took the complete-game loss.
Aptos hosts Soquel (18-6, 10-3) in the teams' regular-season finale on Saturday at 2 p.m.
At Scotts Valley 9, Harbor 0: Junior Chloe Kent had two hits, two RBI, two stolen bases, and scored twice for the Falcons in their SCCAL finale on Thursday.
Senior Jessa Strong had two hits and three RBI for the fourth-place Falcons (9-11-1, 8-7). Brooklyn Williams had two hits and scored a run, and Jillian Oing had hit, one RBI, and scored twice.
Sofia Monroe and Lola Briske had hits for the Pirates.
Senior Jazzy Phillips, the winning pitcher, and junior pitcher Lorelei Warner recorded a combined 15 strikeouts.
At Soquel 17, Santa Cruz 2; 5 inn.: Freshman Hailey Leimas and Kiyomi Dunlap threw a combined no-hitter in the Knights' SCCAL win Thursday.
On offense, Dunlap, Leimas, and classmate Sophia Kilby hit home runs. Dunlap finished with two hits and four RBI for the Knights. Leimas had three RBI and scored twice, and Kilby had two hits and two RBI.
Sophomore Ellie Howell had three hits, two RBI, and scored a run for the Knights (18-6, 10-3). Sophomore Kate Silva had two hits, one RBI, and scored a run. Katie Niizawa scored four runs, Eliza Stevens scored three runs, and Idrah Lopez scored twice.
Rona Lewis and Arianna Bayens each drove in a run for Santa Cruz (2-16, 1-13), and GG Padia-Espinosa and Izzy Fetke scored runs.
Soquel plays at Aptos (21-4, 14-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
High school baseball
Soquel 20, at Santa Cruz 2: The SCCAL champion Knights rebounded from their 17-12 loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday by matching their season-high run total in their league win on Thursday.
Soquel (20-4, 12-2) finished with 19 hits, but only one went for extra bases. Senior Connor Corlett went 5-for-5 batting two RBI, and four runs scored. Junior Luke Santee had four hits, including a double, two RBI, and scored three runs. Senior Trey Sousa had three hits, four RBI, and scored twice, and senior Jake Escalante had two hits, four RBI, and scored twice. Hudson Summerrill had three hits, three RBI, and scored a run. Anthony Skinner scored three runs and Sam Whelan scored twice.
Fourth-place Santa Cruz (14-11, 8-7) had six hits and one walk.
Escalante pitched five innings and picked up the win.
Soquel plays at SLV (4-21) in the teams' SCCAL finale on Saturday at 11 a.m.
At Harbor 11, Alvarez 8: Russell Riddick, Evan Lampel, and Aiden Boles each had two hits for the Pirates in their nonleague win Thursday.
Riddick tripled and had two RBI for the Pirates (17-9), Lampel doubled and had one RBI, and Boles scored a run.
Emmett Lamson gave up one. earned run over five innings and picked up the win. He struck out four batters.
Sophomore Cody Victoriano had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run for the Eagles (4-23).
Harbor hosts Scotts Valley (8-16) in the teams' SCCAL finale on Friday at 4 p.m.
At North Salinas 20, Watsonville 2; 5 inn.: Freshman Mauricio Estrada had two of the Wildcatz's four hits in their regular-season finale on Thursday.
Malachi Henderson had a hit and one RBI for the Wildcatz (7-17, 7-5), who finished in third place in the PCAL Cypress Division. Justin Curiel and Mathew Silva each scored a run.
The second-place Vikings (16-9, 11-1) had 11 hits, three walks, five beaned batters, and capitalized on 13 Wildcatz errors.
