Daily Breeze baseball Top 10 headed into CIF-SS and L.A. City Section playoffs
1. Palos Verdes 19-9
The Bay League champions ended the regular season with just a 2-4 record. The Sea Kings will look to get back on track in a tough Division 3 bracket, starting Friday at home against San Joaquin League champion Pacifica Christian.
2. Redondo Union 16-12
The Sea Hawks ended the season with a 3-2 loss against Bishop Montgomery. The second-place team from the Bay League will open the Division 3 playoffs Friday on the road at Burroughs of Ridgecrest, the Mojave River League champion.
3. South Torrance 19-9
Pioneer League champion Spartans face off against the Moore League champion Millikan Rams in a Division 3 first-round game, which will be played Friday night (6:30 p.m.) at Blair Field.
4. Carson 22-4-1
The Colts closed the season with seven consecutive Marine League wins to finish 12-1. Carson is the fourth seed in the L.A. City Open Division playoffs and begin play Wednesday at home against No. 5 Garfield.
5. Mira Costa 16-12
The Mustangs wrapped up the regular season with a 5-3 win over Fullerton. After finishing third in the Bay League, Mira Costa is the top seed in Division 3, opening up Friday at home against Ivy League champion Arlington.
6. Torrance 17-10
The Tartars found their groove late in the season, winning 10 of their last 12. A late jump in the CIF-SS rankings took them off of the Division 3 landscape and into Division 2, but unfortunately, there wasn't an at-large spot open.
7. El Segundo 19-7
The Eagles finished second in the Pioneer League and had the highest finish (50th) in the South Bay according to the CIF-SS rankings. They're in Division 2 and will open up Thursday on the road against Gahr, the second-place team from the Gateway League.
8. St. Bernard 15-12
The Vikings finished third in the Del Rey League and is the No. 2 seed in the Division 5 playoffs. St. Bernard will host Inland Valley League champion Rancho Verde Friday.
9. Bishop Montgomery 13-12-1
The Knights ended the season with wins over South Torrance, Redondo Union and LB Wilson. They're in Division 5 and will begin the playoffs Friday at 605 League champion Cerritos.
10. Banning 15-11-1
The Pilots finished second in the Marine League and are the eighth seed in the L.A. City Section Open Division playoffs. Banning will face top-seed Birmingham Thursday.
