Tiger Woods Suffers First Blow In Florida DUI Case

Tiger Woods and his legal team technically suffered a loss in court this Tuesday, May 12.

Woods was arrested on March 27 after a rollover accident in Florida. He told the authorities that he was looking at his phone and changing the radio station before he clipped a trailer and flipped his Land Rover onto its side. The police said they found two pain pills in the legendary golfer's pocket while at the scene of the crash.

"I do believe your normal faculties are impaired, and you're under an unknown substance, so at this time you're under arrest for DUI," Martin County Sheriff's Deputy Tatiana Levenar told Woods.

A little over a month ago, Florida prosecutors requested access to Woods' prescription drug records. Well, a state judge officially granted their request this Tuesday in Martin County Circuit Court.

"Judge Darren Steele granted the state's request to obtain the 15-time major champion's prescription drug records on file at Lewis Pharmacy in Palm Beach, Florida. Woods did not attend the hearing," Mark Schlabach of ESPN wrote.

"Woods' attorney, Douglas Duncan, had objected to the state's request, writing in a motion that Woods has a constitutional right to privacy interest in his prescription records. He requested the hearing to determine whether the records are relevant to the criminal investigation."

Both sides agreed that Woods' prescription drug records will only be made available to expert witnesses, law enforcement, prosecutors and the 15-time major champion's defense team.

What's the latest on Tiger Woods?

Woods already announced that he was stepping away from the spotlight to focus on his health.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery," Woods said in a recent statement. "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

According to Daily Mail, Woods' loved ones are "happy" with the progress he's made in rehab.

"He's got a pain management doctor who is helping him deal with his body pain without addictive opioids," an insider told Daily Mail. "He calls or Zooms a small number of people: Vanessa [Trump], his kids, Mark Steinberg. He's responding well to treatment, and Vanessa is very happy with what she's hearing."

It's unclear if we'll ever see Woods back on the PGA Tour.
