Caitlin Clark Left Today's WNBA Game Multiple Times With Possible Injury
Hopefully this doesn't become a recurring theme but Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark needed to leave today's WNBA season opener against the Dallas Wings multiple times due to an apparent injury.
During the broadcast of today's game between the Fever and the Wings, Clark had to make no less than two trips to the locker room. ABC reported that Clark's injury was some combination of hip flexor and groin issues.
Clark still managed to put in a solid day's work though, playing 30 minutes (second on the team) and scoring 20 points with five rebounds and seven assists in her first WNBA regular season game in 10 months.
Nevertheless, Clark's health was one of the main topics that Fever head coach Stephanie White was asked about after the game. Speaking to the media, White said that Clark's trips to the locker room were to get her back adjusted and that she did not hear at all what ABC reported about her injuries.
White specified after the game that Clark is okay, and that what she underwent is no different than what other players go through.
The Fever PR department reportedly told Robin Lundberg that anything said on the ABC broadcast was "speculation."
"Fever PR added anything said on the broadcast was speculation," Lundberg wrote on X.
Speculation or Not?
Fans that watched the game, which the Fever went on to win 107-105, weren't as convinced as White was that there was no issue.
"There's nothing fine about an elite athlete getting her back adjusted multiple times during a competition," one user on X pointed out.
"What does that even mean? Since when do we adjust bodies midgame? lol," wrote another.
"I'm not so sure. Her back is definitely a problem," a third wrote.
"Back?? She was reaching for her groin over and over."
Whether Clark's issue is serious or not, she would probably still call today a success.
On top of getting a season-opening win, Clark set a WNBA record by becoming the fastest player to achieve 1,000+ points, 250+ rebounds and 250+ assists in a career. She reached the milestone in 54 games, breaking the great Diana Taurasi's prior record of 62 games.
