Shedeur Sanders Shares Cryptic Post Amid Browns QB Competition

It’s been over four months since the Cleveland Browns ended their season last in the NFC North with a 5-12 record and Shedeur Sanders as their starting quarterback.

Sanders took over the starting job in Week 12 after fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel went out with a concussion, and many felt that although the former Colorado Buffaloes QB wasn’t stellar, he showed some potential if he could develop under the right coach.

Cleveland made the move after the season to fire Kevin Stefanski from that position and hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their new head coach.

Still, questions emerged about the competition for the starting quarterback job, as the team also had veteran Deshaun Watson on its depth chart available to play.

And this offseason brought additional drama when Shilo Sanders made harsh remarks about Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot after she reported that Watson was in the lead for the battle to become QB1 after mincamp.

On Friday morning, Sanders may have shared a message on social media aimed at his critics, suggesting to “Think about a person’s opinion” and how “in the grand scheme of life, it means nothing.”

“We often give opinions power when we react to them and make them seem valuable,” the post also said.

In the remainder of the message he shared, Sanders referenced his and others’ belief in God as the most important one to keep in mind when it comes to pleasing someone.

Sanders and his legendary father, Deion Sanders, both often share messages that reference their belief in God, but this one seems especially meaningful amid the recent Browns quarterback news.

After ESPN Cleveland shared Sanders’ post on X, many commenters reacted to what he said and seemed to have harsh criticism of the young quarterback.

“Maybe tell his brother to shut his trap. We don’t NEED his opinion either,” one commenter wrote.

Another said, “Man I really want him to succeed, be our franchise QB and also love our God but man he's coming off as the Joel Osteen of the NFL.”

“Cool. Now quit holding on to the football too long. We drafted a QB not a pastor,” an X commenter wrote.

Sanders previously said he was committed to improving parts of his game this offseason that he needed to, but so far, it appears he hasn’t been able to win the competition for the starting job next season.

“I think they should declare [Watson] QB1 ASAP and let the 1st team offense start to cook. There’s no time to waste,” Cabot previously said regarding the Browns making Watson QB1 over Sanders.

That prompted Shilo Sanders to fire back at Cabot on his brother’s behalf, criticizing the reporter and telling her, “Go make a sandwich, Mary.”

Meanwhile, the QB competition seems to be going in the more-experienced veteran Watson’s favor, who is coming off rehab for a ruptured right Achilles tendon that first occurred in October 2024 and reruptured in early 2025.

In addition to having young quarterbacks Sanders and Gabriel on the depth chart, the Browns drafted Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green in the sixth round last month.
