How are North Bay alums doing in college sports?
Student-athlete alums from high schools around the North Bay are competing for colleges and universities throughout the country. Here's a look at some of their notable recent achievements.
Lila Partridge, University of Kansas softball
The Casa Grande alum tossed her best outing of the season, firing a five-inning complete game against No. 13 Oklahoma State last Saturday. She struck out four, walked none and allowed just two hits over her outing to pick up her ninth win of the season.
She then suffered a loss an outing the following day against Oklahoma State but came back to put in a gutty effort in a 6-5 win over UCF in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday. She allowed four runs over the first two innings but settled in as she fired five innings with one hit, two walks and three earned runs allowed.
Partridge also earned all-conference accolades earlier this week, being named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team. On the year, she's 9-4 with two saves and sports a 3.95 ERA in 78 innings pitched. The Jayhawks are 35-18 on the year, their winningest season since 2015.
Jamie McGaughey, University of Hawaii softball
The Casa Grande grad hit three home runs in a sweep of UC Riverside last week to cap the regular season. The senior had a massive showing the back end of a doubleheader on Friday, a 6-1 win, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs. She also hit a solo home run in a 5-1 win in the opener.
The Rainbow Warriors are 30-12 on the season and finished second in the Big West at 21-6. They won their opening game of the Big West Tournament 2-0 over UC Santa Barbara on Thursday and were set to play top-seeded Cal State Fullerton in the title game Friday.
McGaughey was also named a first-team all-conference selection earlier this week. She finished the regular season with a .406 batting average, 54 hits, 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and led the conference in total bases with 102.
Callie Howard, UC San Diego softball
The Cardinal Newman alum picked up two wins over CSU Bakersfield last week. In a 10-2 win Friday, she went five innings with eight hits and one run allowed. Then in a 7-2 win the next day, she struck out four with three hits and one run allowed over five innings.
The Tritons' season came to an end Wednesday in the Big West Tournament. Howard finished her freshman year with an 8-9 record, two saves and a 3.88 ERA in 108 1/3 innings pitched this season. She was also named to the Big West All-Freshman team.
Marissa Brody, Cal Poly Humboldt softball
The Casa Grande alum was named a CCAA All-Conference honorable mention selection earlier this week. The sophomore is batting .377 on the year with four home runs, 47 RBIs, 13 doubles and an OPS of .994. The Lumberjacks were set to play a do-or-die game against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday in the CCAA Tournament.
Tahlia Smith, Manhattanville softball
The St. Helena grad pick up a complete-game win and a save last week to help the Valiants to a Skyline Conference title and a victory in their opening game of the conference tournament. Smith struck out five, walked two and allowed six hits in her shutout of Old Westbury last Friday and then picked up a six-out save with five strikeouts, one walk and two hits against Old Westbury on Thursday in their conference tournament opener.
Smith was also named to the Skyline Conference second team as a pitcher. She's had a stellar freshman season and is 12-3 on the year with two saves, a 2.36 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 89 innings pitched. Manhattanville is 34-8 on the year and is on the bubble of the top 25 NCAA Division III teams in the nation.
Josh Jannicelli, UC Santa Barbara baseball
The Cardinal Newman alum pitched well in a short start Tuesday in a no-decision in a 13-3 win over Pepperdine. The freshman fired 2 2/3 innings with one hit and one run allowed while walking two and striking out five. On the year, Jannicelli has pitched 26 innings in 11 appearances and is 2-1 with a 3.81 ERA with 40 strikeouts to 15 walks and 16 hits allowed. UCSB is 31-15 on the year and second in the Big West at 16-8. The Gauchos are ranked around No. 30 in the nation by several outlets and projected to make the NCAA Division I tournament.
Jordan Giacomini, University of Nevada-Reno baseball
The Casa Grande and SRJC alum had two solid outings last week. He fired three scoreless innings in an 8-0 loss to No. 18 USC, striking out four with three walks and no hits allowed out of the bullpen. He also fired a perfect inning in relief in an 8-2 loss to San Diego State.
Mason Lerma, UC Davis baseball
The Cardinal Newman grad pitched well in his outings over the past week. Lerma picked up a win, his fourth of the season, after firing two innings with one hit and one run allowed with three strikeouts and a walk in a 7-6 win over Cal State Fullerton last Friday.
Dante Vachini, Josh Volmerding, Cal Poly baseball
Vachini, a Petaluma grad, hit a three-run home run, his second home run of the season, in an 8-6 win over UC Irvine on Sunday. The sophomore went 2-for-4 on the day and is now batting .273 on the season with 16 RBIs.
Volmerding, a Maria Carrillo grad, made his first appearance since an extended injury absence last week and pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout in an 11-2 win over UC Irvine. Cal Poly is 27-20 on the year and currently leads the Big West at 17-7.
Tanner Bradley, University of Oregon baseball
The Cardinal Newman grad posted his fourth consecutive scoreless appearance as he struck out two with one walk and no hits over two innings to earn his first save of the year in a 6-4 win over Washington last Friday. Bradley's ERA is now 1.42 on the year and he's struck out 63 with 14 walks and 18 hits allowed in 38 innings pitched. Oregon is 35-12 on the year and is ranked No. 13 in the NCAA Division I.
Jake McCoy, San Jose State baseball
The Casa Grande and SRJC alum cooled a bit over the past week but extended his team lead with his 14th home run of the season in an 8-3 win over Grand Canyon last Friday. Over his last 10 games, McCoy is 13-for-43 with five home runs and 18 RBIs. On the year, he's batting .311 with 14 home runs, 42 RBIs, 11 doubles and an OPS of .982.
Aidan Lombardi, New Mexico State baseball
The Cardinal Newman and SRJC alum hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, in a 7-4 loss to Liberty on Sunday.
Cody Guy, College of Idaho baseball
The Cardinal Newman alum tied his season high with three RBIs in a 13-10 loss to Oregon Tech in the second round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament on Saturday. Guy finished his junior season batting .298 with six home runs, 11 doubles and 31 RBIs.
Jack Lazark, Santa Clara baseball
The Cardinal Newman alum pitched three quality innings out of the bullpen in a 7-6 loss to conference-leading Gonzaga last Saturday. The junior righty struck out three with no walks and allowed just one run on two hits to help his team get back in the game after falling behind 4-0 early.
Tyler Nordyke, Kansas Wesleyan baseball
The Windsor and SRJC alum is on a five-game hitting streak to push his average to a season-best .330. Over that stretch, he's 7-for-16 with six RBIs and seven scored.
Kansas Wesleyan swept both the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles, going 28-3 in conference play, and will head into the NAIA playoffs with an overall record of 48-7. The team is ranked No. 10 overall in the NAIA and is the No. 2 seed in their postseason bracket and will play No. 3 seed Concordia in Monday's first-round opener.
Jude DeVries, Cal Baptist men's track and field
The Montgomery grad shattered his personal best in the 5K at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational last Friday, placing 10th overall in 13 minutes, 48.07 seconds. That breaks his old PR by over 10 seconds.
Jake Joerger, UC Davis men's track and field
The Cardinal Newman grad won the shot put at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday, hitting a throw of 53 feet, 9 inches. He also placed third in the discus with a throw of 160-08.
Eliana DeMange, Cal Poly SLO women's track and field
The Maria Carrillo grad placed fourth overall in the 800 at the Fresno State Invitational, running a time of 2:10.81.
Albert Beerbower, Cal Poly SLO men's track and field
The Cardinal Newman grad placed fourth in the shot put at the Fresno State Invitational, hitting a throw of 52-11.5.
Nehemiah Holiday, Beau Gleeson, Chico State men's track and field
The Maria Carrillo grads helped the Wildcats to win their second straight CCAA Championship last week and the 18th conference title in program history. Holiday placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 45-08, while Gleeson placed third in discus (143-02) and fifth in the javelin (171-09).
Madi Monroe, Chico State women's track and field
The Rancho Cotate grad helped the Wildcats' 4×100 team to a fourth-place finish at the CCAA Championships last week with a time of 46.60. The Chico State women also won the team title, marking the first time that school has swept the men's and women's titles since 2017.
Tiernan Colby, Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field
The Sonoma Academy grad placed eighth overall out of nearly 50 finishers in the 5K at the SCIAC Championships last weekend with a time of 15:02.90. Pomona-Pitzer placed third overall in the men's team competition.
Joey Bowser, Cal Poly Humboldt men's track and field
The Montgomery grad helped the Lumberjacks' 4×400 team to a fourth-place finish at the CCAA Championships with a time of 3:14.83. Humboldt finished third in the men's team competition, the program's best finish ever as a member of the CCAA.
Adam Joseph, Case-Western men's track and field
The Santa Rosa grad placed eighth overall in the 10K at the UAA Championships two weeks ago, finishing the competitive race with a time of 32:40.13.
Hanne Thomsen, Stanford women's track and field
The Montgomery grad won the 5K at the Payton Jordan Invitational last week, running to a season-best time of 15:54.02.
Ellie Roan, Boston University women's track and field
The Analy grad won two throwing events at the Jay Carisella Invite last weekend. She placed first in the shot put with a throw of 46-11.50 and the hammer with a mark of 195-02, and finished second in the discus (152-05).
Amrie Lacefield, Colorado State women's track and field
The Montgomery grad placed 12th overall in the 1,500 at the Doug Max Invitational last weekend. She won her heat with a time of 4:38.05.
Lexi Hunt, Oregon State women's track and field
The Maria Carrillo alum placed third in the high jump at the OSU High Performance meet last week, clearing a height of 5-03.75.
Ashley Busienei, Sacramento State women's track and field
The Maria Carrillo grad placed third in the 1,600 at the Fresno State Invitational over the week, running to a time of 4:36.57.
Siena Brunetti, Holy Cross women's track and field
The Cardinal Newman grad placed 18th overall out of 60 finishers in the 1,500 at the Jay Carisella Invite last weekend, finishing with a time of 4:40.90.
Addison Hackett, UC Riverside women's track and field
The Maria Carrillo grad placed eighth overall in the hammer throw at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational, hitting a throw of 162-10.
Carolina Dawson, Cal women's track and field
The Analy grad placed second in her heat of the 800 at the Payton Jordan Invitational, running to a time of 2:08.75.
Caroline Beard, UC Santa Barbara women's tennis
The Gauchos' season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA Championships last Friday in a 4-0 loss to No. 11 Pepperdine.
Beard finishes her redshirt freshman season with a 6-2 record in singles matches, playing mostly out of the Nos. 5 and 6 positions, and a 10-3 record in doubles, where she started the year at Nos. 2 and 3 before finishing the season at No. 1 in her final six matches. Beard was also named to the All-Big West first team for doubles.
Lucas Bollinger, UC Davis men's tennis
The Vintage grad earned all-conference honors in both singles and doubles. The senior was a first-team All-Big West honoree in singles and a second-team honoree in doubles.
