Daily Breeze All-Area girls soccer: Brianna Bogar is the Player of the Year

DAILY BREEZE GIRLS SOCCER TEAM 2025-26

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Brianna Bogar, Redondo Union, Senior, Defender

Defense told the story for the Redondo Union girls soccer team this season.

The Sea Hawks proved to be one of the toughest groups to score against and it was that trait that led the way to another Bay League championship and a spot in the CIF-Southern Section Open Division semifinals.

Senior center back Brianna Bogar was the stabilizing force for a Redondo team that allowed only four goals in Bay League competition and just 10 goals on the season. The Sea Hawks recorded shutouts in 14 of the 23 games this season.

"She was an incredible defender," Redondo coach Shelly Marsden said of Bogar.

"Defensively, no one gets past her. She's good in the air, her footwork is perfect and the most important part is she doesn't lose the ball and helps us keep possession. No matter how much pressure she's facing, she finds way to keep distributing (the ball)."

Bogar, who is headed to Rice, was a fixture on the Redondo back line since her freshman year, playing every minute of every game that year.

Since then, she has continued to develop into the leader that the Sea Hawks have needed as they won their third league title in the last four years.

"She always had a lot of composure, she's never nervous and no moment was ever too big for her," Marsden said. "She loves her teammates and she probably had the best sportsmanship of anybody I've ever coached."

Bogar was selected Bay League co-MVP this season and earned first-team All-CIF-SS Open Division honors. Bogar has participated in U.S. Youth National team I.D. camps, the Philippine Women's National Futsal Camp and later this month she will participate in a Philippine senior and U-20 national team camp.

"As a freshman, I watched the leaders around me," Bogar said. "Watched how they led the team. As I got older, I was able to take on a leadership role. As a center back, it allows me to see the field and control things ahead of me.

"We had a goal of getting the (Bay) league title back and making a deep playoff run and we also grew as a team."

Bogar has played throughout the field, starting as a forward at the club level, and then in the midfield, before finding her home at center back. She will soon turn her attention toward continuing her career in college.

"I was looking for a top notch academic and a great Division 1 program," she said of Rice. "My dad grew up in Houston and when I went on my official visit, I loved it. Rice fit all of the boxes."

COACH OF THE YEAR

The Sea Hawks started the season winning the South Holiday Tournament.

The Sea Hawks carried over that momentum into the Bay League, winning a third title in the last four years, all while allowing just four goals.
