Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Sydney Salazar, Dublin softball

Dublin softball player Sydney Salazar is the Bay Area News Group's girls high school athlete of the week for April 27-May 2.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Salazar finished with 41.5% of the votes. South San Francisco softball player Sydney Semans took second at 35.8%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Salazar, a junior, made a big impact on Dublin's 16-6 win over Amador Valley, driving in four runs on three hits and going 3 for 3 with a double and two stolen bases. She added two hits and two RBIs in a win over Granada.

To nominate an athlete for next week’s poll, email highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com by Monday at 11 a.m. Please include stats and team results.

Votes by email do not count. Only votes submitted through the online poll on the Mercury News and East Bay Times websites will count.

Winners are announced each Friday on the Mercury News and East Bay Times websites and in the print edition of the Mercury News and EB Times sports sections.
