Local Roundup: Vallejo's Flores throws no-hitter in league playoff

Vallejo 3, Richmond 0
The Vallejo High baseball team defeated Richmond 3-0 in the opening round of the Tri-County Athletic League playoffs behind a no-hitter from starting pitcher Jose Flores.
Flores threw five innings and struck out eight batters. He walked three.
Flores was also a force at the plate, collecting two hits and driving in two. David Bernstine III collected three more hits and was a homer short of the cycle. Bernstine is now batting .707 on the season, good enough for fourth in the state.
Vallejo took on St. Patrick-St. Vincent High in the second round on Thursday afternoon.
College Park 3, Benicia 1
The Benicia High baseball team lost to College Park 3-1 on Tuesday.
With the loss the Panthers fell to 1-6 in the Diablo Valley Athletic League. The Panthers played College Park in the second game of the series on Thursday.
Softball
Benicia 14, Acalanes 4
The Benicia High softball team defeated Acalanes 14-4 in five innings on Tuesday.
Ellie Kunstman led the Panthers with a grand slam, while Skyler Jacome had two hits and four RBI. Arielle Der had a hit and three RBI.
Kloie Ruiz earned the win in the circle by throwing five innings and picking up three strikeouts.
Benicia is now 11-10 overall and 3-4 in the Diablo Valley Athletic League.
American Canyon 18, Justin-Siena 8
The American Canyon High softball team inched closer to a Vine Valley Athletic League title with an 18-8 win over Justin-Siena on Wednesday.
Kate Sosa led the Wolves with three hits and six RBI. She had a homer, a double, a steal and scored two runs. She also pitched three innings and struck out eight.
Madison Del Castillo collected three hits of her own to go with five steals, while Olivia Annal had a game-high four hits. Raquel Winterburn and Jazlene Flores each had three hits, while Deja Montgomery, Ianna Lobao each had two hits.
The Wolves are now 16-3 overall and 9-1 in league play.
Badminton
Bethel's Phan finishes in second at TCAL tournament
The Tri-County Athletic League held its TCAL tournament this week and Vy Phan placed second on the girls side. She advances to the North Coast Section Division II Tournament Saturday at Newark Memorial High School.
In the boys doubles, Crisanto Mendoza and Fender Ynion came in third place, whikle Montrey Malasaya and Ethan Concepcion came in fifth. LJ Estrada and Ryan Lu came in sixth place. Mendoza and Ynion will compete at the section tournament at Newark High.
In girls doubles, the team of Phuong Nguyen and Kaelyn Saephan came in seventh.
In mixed doubles, the team of Betzayda Gonzalez/Anthony Orias also came in seventh.
