Softball: American Canyon clinches league title; Petaluma upsets Vintage
American Canyon 18, Justin-Siena 8 (5 innings)
The Wolves captured their first league title in program history on Wednesday as they run-ruled the Braves to secure the Vine Valley Athletic League crown.
Kate Sosa delivered on both ends, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and six RBIs and also pitching three shutout innings with eight strikeouts out of the bullpen.
Madison Del Castillo had three hits with three RBIs, Raquel Winterburn had three hits with two RBIs, Jazlene Flores had three hits with one RBI and Olivia Annal had four hits.
American Canyon (16-3, 9-1) will close out VVAL play Friday at Napa.
Petaluma 7, Vintage 2
The Trojans helped American Canyon clinch the VVAL title outright with their upset victory over the Crushers on Wednesday.
It's jus the second time that Petaluma (13-9-1, 7-4) has won in its last nine meetings with Vintage (12-10, 8-3).
Brylee Ronsheimer homered and doubled with three RBIs to lead the way offensively for the Trojans, while Scarlett Fannin had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs.
Taylor Cook spun a gem in the circle, firing a complete game with six hits and one earned run allowed with two walks and two strikeouts.
Sydney Morton had three hits with an RBI and Malina Viruet had two hits with an RBI for the Crushers, who will play at Sonoma Valley on Friday in their league finale.
The Trojans will host rival Casa Grande in their final game of league play Friday.
Ukiah 4, Sonoma Valley 2
The Wildcats did all their damage offensively in the fifth inning and rode the hot hand of their starting pitcher to a solid nonleague road win over the Dragons on Wednesday.
Taylor Allen fired a complete game in the circle, striking out nine, walking two and allowing four hits on the day. Zoey Brown had two hits with an RBI and Dana Cabada doubled with two RBIs to lead the way offensively for Ukiah (13-7), which has now won five in a row.
Morgan Briggs had two hits, including a double, with an RBI for Sonoma Valley (9-12) and also fired a complete game in the circle, with eights strikeouts, no walks and seven hits allowed.
Ukiah will round out North Bay League Redwood division play at home Friday against Piner, which has already clinched the league title.
Healdsburg 17, Credo 7 (5 innings) / Healdsburg 14, Kelseyville 2 (5 innings)
The Greyhounds swept a nonleague doubleheader on Wednesday with a pair of run-rule victories.
In their opener, a 14-2 win over Kelseyville, Mia Halvorsen allowed just two hits and two unearned runs with three walks and three strikeouts in a complete-game effort. Sammy White had two hits with two RBIs and Izzy Osborn drove in a pair of runs.
Then, in their 17-7 win over Credo, Halvorsen went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, triple and four RBIs. Ashley Jenkins also drove in a pair of runs and scored three times.
The wins move Healdsburg to 12-9 on the year. They'll play at St. Helena in another nonleague game on Thursday before their NBL-Redwood finale against Montgomery on Monday.
