76ers' Joel Embiid Ruled Out for Game 2 vs Knicks: Report

The Philadelphia 76ers will be without their best player for Wednesday night’s Game 2 matchup against the New York Knicks.

Joel Embiid, who missed the first few games of playoff action after undergoing an appendectomy, has been ruled out for Game 2 due to ankle and hip injuries.

Embiid was listed as probable to play on the 76ers’ injury report released on Tuesday evening. But, the superstar big man experienced “increased soreness” with both injuries and was unable to participate in the 76ers’ shootaround on Wednesday morning.

“Embiid was unable to participate in the team's shootaround this morning after experiencing increased soreness in both his ankle and hip, sources said. He had been receiving around-the-clock treatment in efforts to play,” ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reports.

The 76ers were blown out by the No. 3 seed Knicks in Game 1, suffering a 137-98 final score at Madison Square Garden. Embiid played 25 minutes in the loss, scoring 14 points on an inefficient 3/11 from the field and 0/2 from behind the 3-point arc. He also recorded just four rebounds in the loss.

The 76ers went 1-2 against the No. 2 seed Boston Celtics with Embiid off the court for the first three games of the first-round playoff series. Philadelphia then went 3-1 upon his return, including three consecutive victories in closeout games to complete the 3-1 comeback.
