The Inland girls athlete of the week:

Name: Violet Espin

Year: Senior

Noteworthy: Espin, a shortstop who has signed with Memphis, went 3 for 4 and belted two home runs as the Bears outslugged Liberty 13-7 and clinched the Ivy League championship last week. Espin got Poly off to a strong start with a two-run homer in the opening inning. She added an RBI single in the second inning and a solo home run in the fourth. Espin went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in a 12-1 win over Arlington later in the week and will take an 11-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s game at Ayala. She is batting .410 with nine homers and a team-high 28 RBIs.
