Inland swimmers to watch at this week's CIF Southern Section finals

Inland swimmers are expected to collect several individual championships and medals at this week’s CIF Southern Section finals.

The preliminaries and finals in each of the four divisions will take place at the Mt. San Antonio College Aquatic Center in Walnut.

The Division 1 preliminaries start at 9 a.m. Thursday, with that division’s finals starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Division 2 preliminaries begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, and the finals for that division take place at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The Division 3 preliminaries start at 9 a.m. Wednesday, with that division’s finals starting at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Division 4 preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and the finals for that division take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Here is a look at each of the divisions, including swimmers and teams who are expected to challenge for championships.

DIVISION 1

Riverside Poly’s Ava DeAnda has captured four individual section championships in her career. She is this division’s two-time defending champion in the girls 100-yard freestyle and the top seed in the event this season. DeAnda will swim the 50 freestyle at Southern Section finals for the first time. She is seeded No. 2 in that event.

Santiago’s Charlotte Milkie is seeded No. 2 in the girls 200 freestyle and No. 7 in the 500 freestyle. Teammate Brooke DeMarco is seeded No. 3 in the girls 100 breaststroke.

Poly is seeded No. 6 in the girls 200 medley relay, while Santiago is seeded No. 6 in the girls 400 freestyle relay.

Damien’s Ryder Davis will be looking to collect his first individual championship. He is seeded No. 2 in both the boys 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Ayala’s Kevin Zheng is the No. 4 seed in the boys 50 freestyle, while Diamond Bar’s Jerry Fan is seeded No. 7 in the 100 breaststroke.

DIVISION 2

Poly’s Dashiell DeAnda will be looking to join his sister as a CIF Southern Section champion. He is the top seed in the boys 200 freestyle and the No. 2 seed in the 500 freestyle.

Other Inland boys swimmers to watch in this division are Maksim Kutsner of Redlands (No. 3 seed in the 100 backstroke), Upland’s Logan Abadie (No. 3 in the 100 breaststroke), and Etiwanda’s David Atamian (No. 5 seed in the 100 freestyle).

Murrieta Valley’s Kaylee Richmond looks to defend her titles in the girls 50 and 100 freestyles. She is the top seed in the 50 this season and the No. 2 seed in the 100.

Diamond Bar’s Adalyn Lee looks to make a splash, as the freshman is seeded No. 2 in the girls 200 individual medley.

King’s Alyssa Bian is seeded No. 3 in both the girls 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly.

Maddison Miner of Redlands is seeded No. 4 in the girls 200 freestyle, and is part of the 200 freestyle relay that is seeded third.

Upland’s Sawyer Hickler is seeded No. 4 in the girls 50 freestyle, and Vista Murrieta’s Isabella Alvarez is the No. 4 seed in the girls 100 freestyle.

DIVISION 3

Hemet’s Jaydah Godbolt is this division’s defending champion in the girls 100 backstroke and the top seed again this season. Godbolt also is the No. 2 seed in the 200 individual medley,

Liberty’s Gwen Asbury is the No. 1 seed in the girls 200 freestyle and the No. 2 seed in the 500 freestyle.

Other Inland girls swimmers to watch in this division are Norco’s Raylene Tapia (No. 2 seed in the 100 breaststroke), Bonita’s Alissa Cheng (No. 3 seed in the 100 butterfly) and Chaparral’s Braelyn Davis (No. 5 seed in the 100 backstroke).

Norco’s 200 girls medley relay team is seeded fourth.

Brody Porter of Los Osos is the No. 2 seed in the boys 200 individual medley and the No. 3 seed in the 100 breaststroke.

Alta Loma’s Noah Quintero Marmol Morefield is the No. 3 seed in the boys 200 IM and part of the 200 freestyle relay that is seeded fifth.

Temescal Canyon’s boys 200 medley relay is the No. 3 seed, while Santiago’s 400 boys freestyle relay is seeded fourth.

DIVISION 4

Alta Loma enters the week as the favorite to win the girls team title, but the Lions will have to fend off challenges from Calabasas and Arrowhead Christian Academy.

Leading Alta Loma is Carly Berzins, who is seeded No. 2 in the girls 200 freestyle and No. 5 in the 100 freestyle. Other top swimmers for the Lions are Mollie Kochel (No. 2 seed in the 100 backstroke) and Angelina Cinquemani (No. 5 in the 50 freestyle). Alta Loma is top seed in the 400 freestyle relay, the No. 2 seed in the 200 freestyle relay and No. 5 seed in the 200 medley relay.

Arrowhead Christian’s Juliette Early is the No. 2 seed in the girls 50 freestyle and No. 3 seed in the 100 freestyle. The Eagles also are the top seed in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Loma Linda Academy’s Myla Benggon is the top seed in the girls 100 backstroke and No. 3 seed in the 200 IM. The Roadrunners also are seeded No. 2 in the 200 medley relay.

Citrus Hill’s Brooke Wiley is the No. 1 seed in the girls 100 butterfly and No. 2 seed in the 200 individual medley.

North’s Kelsey Flores is the top seed in the girls 100 breaststroke. Woodcrest Christian’s Lauren Rodriguez is the No. 2 seed in the 100 breaststroke and No. 3 seed in 200 freestyle,

Other Inland girls swimmers to watch are Norte Vista’s Brooke Batdorf (No. 3 seed in 100 butterfly), Chino’s Isis Hernandez (No. 3 in 100 backstroke), and Orange Vista’s Mikaela De Guzman (No. 3 in the 100 breaststroke).

On the boys side, Aquinas and Hemet are the favorites to finish atop the team standings, and the championship could be decided on the final relay.

Aquinas is led by Xavier Hatcher-Sifford (No. 2 seed in the 50 and 100 freestyles) and Izay Cabral (No. 4 seed in the 100 and 200 freestyles). The Falcons are the top seed in the both freestyle relays and the No. 2 seed in the medley relay.

Hemet is led by Evan Marshall, who is seeded No. 5 in the 500 freestyle and No. 6 in the 100 backstroke. The Bulldogs are the top seed in the medley relay, the No. 2 seed in the 400 freestyle relay, and the No. 3 seed in the 200 free relay.

St. Jeanne de Lestonnac’s Emory Vorndam is this division’s defending champion in the boys 100 freestyle. He is the top seed in that event, as well as the 200 freestyle.

Vista Murrieta’s Aiden Abalos is the top seed in the boys 200 individual medley and No. 3 seed in the 100 breaststroke. The Broncos also are seeded third in the medley relay and fourth in the 400 freestyle relay.

Other Inland boys swimmers to watch in this division are Moreno Valley’s Gage La Pante (No. 3 seed in the 50 and 100 freestyles) and Western Christian’s Hudson Rosdil (No. 3 in the 200 freestyle and No. 4 in the 100 backstroke).
