Roundup: Windsor baseball holds on late for win over Maria Carrillo, inches closer to league title

Windsor 1, Maria Carrillo 0

The Jaguars pulled out a thrilling victory over the Pumas on Saturday afternoon to tighten their grip on the top spot in the North Bay League-Oak standings.

Starting pitcher AJ Rakoski carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Carrillo's Jaxon Purugganan broke it up with a leadoff triple in the final frame.

Gavin Restad then entered for the save and slammed the door by getting a groundout and two strikeouts to seal the win and move Windsor to 14-8 on the year and 9-1 in league play.

Rakoski finished his day with eight strikeouts, one walk and one hit on 82 pitches. The Jaguars scored their lone run in the top of the sixth on a sac fly from Carter Vose III. Kason Witherell, who had two hits on the day, scored the run tagging up from third.

Spencer Mathis pitched well in defeat for Maria Carrillo (5-16, 0-9), striking out three with one walk, four hits and one unearned run allowed over six innings.

Windsor now holds a multi-game lead atop the league standings with two games left to play. Next up is the final series of the regular season against Rancho Cotate.

Las Lomas 6, Casa Grande 2

The Gauchos dropped a nonleague game on the road in Walnut Creek on Saturday to end their winning streak at five games.

Las Lomas (11-9) led 2-1 after four innings and plated four runs in the fifth.

Logan Gard collected three hits, including a double, with an RBI to pace Casa Grande (16-5) offensively.

The Gauchos are done with Vine Valley Athletic League play and currently sit in first place in the standings at 10-2. Petaluma sits in second place at 8-2 with its final two league games against Sonoma Valley coming up this week.

The Gauchos will close out the regular season against San Marin on Wednesday and at Ukiah next Friday.

It's the fifth straight win for Marin Catholic (14-8) and the third time in the last four games that the Wildcats have reached double-digit runs.

The score was tied 3-3 through three innings before the Wildcats scored five runs in the fourth and put the game away with five more runs in the sixth.
