Addie Somerville helps Soquel girls lacrosse secure win on senior night | Local Roundup
Soquel High senior midfielder Addie Somerville scored four goals, and the Knights girls lacrosse team beat visiting Santa Cruz 10-2 in Pacific Coast Athletic League action Friday.
Somerville also had two draw controls, an assist, and a forced turnover.
Soquel players, celebrating senior night, formed a stick tunnel for seniors from both squads to run through ahead of the game.
"A lovely moment of Santa Cruz County lacrosse competing together to celebrate the 2026 graduates and highlight how people come together for the love of the game," Knights coach Lauren Junker said.
Senior attackers Sophie Arnold and Adeline Vaughn-Jones, Senior midfielder Ayla Hymes, junior attackers Ashby Weeks and Maxine Roche, and sophomore defender Margot Rawlings also scored for the Knights.
Rawlings had five forced turnovers. Knights sophomore goalie and Gianna Williams made 15 saves.
Sophoomore midfielder Mia Ruggiero scored both goals for the Cardinals. Freshman goalie Tallulah Halterman made 22 saves.
"Our team is made up of six returners and 14 new players, and I think they did a great job at holding their own," Cardinals coach Lila Crossett said.
Santa Cruz plays at Aptos in its regular-season finale on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Soquel plays at Monterey in its regular-season finale on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
At Monte Vista Christian 19, Harbor 4: Sophomore Claire Silva scored four goals, and six Mustangs scored multiple goals in their nonleague win Friday.
Senior Sophia Sheridan had three goals and two assists for the Mustangs (10-2, 5-1 PCAL), and junior Maya Moore also scored three goals to raise her team leading season total to 53.
Senior Raina Covarrubias had two goals and two assists for MVC, and sophomore Zoe Kantmann and freshman Addison Beelaard also scored twice. Freshmen Brooke Drago, Quinn Morrow, and Niki Souza also scored.
Junior goalie Ana Clara Borges made five saves for the Mustangs.
MVC plays at Stevenson (9-4, 6-0) in Pebble Beach on Monday at 4 p.m.
Stevenson 25, Aptos 4: The Mariners scored on four of their 10 shots on goal in their PCAL loss Friday.
Georgia Bonifas scored four goals to lead the Pirates.
Aptos hosts Santa Cruz in the teams' regular-season finale on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Track and field
ComiIang commits: Soquel senior Ben ComiIang announced on social media that he will further his academic and track and field careers at NCAA Division II Westmont College in Santa Barbara. He plans to major in theology.
ComiIang holds the Knights' school record in the triple jump, He jumped 45 feet, 4 inches at the 2025 CCS Top 8 Invite in Los Gatos. He also holds Soquel's eighth-best mark in the long jump (20-7).
High school baseball
Harbor 9, at Santa Cruz 3: The second-place Pirates pushed their win streak to three games Friday with their second straight win over the Cardinals in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.
Winning pitcher Joey Raffo, a UC Davis commit, gave up four hits, three walks, and three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five batters.
Vivian Mould had two hits, one walk, and scored twice for the Pirates (14-7, 7-4). Evan Lampel also had two hits and scored twice. Noah Solano had two hits, including a double, and one RBI, and Pierre Bell had two hits, one RBI, and scored a run.
In nonleague action on Saturday at 11 a.m., Harbor (14-7, 7-4) hosts Milpitas (9-9), and Santa Cruz hosts Burlingame (13-7).
At Scotts Valley 11, SLV 5: Junior Rex Thompson doubled and homered and classmate Owen Martin also homered for the Falcons in their SCCAL win Friday.
Thompson also doubled, drew a walk, and scored four runs. Martin had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice.
Junior Bryce McDonnell had three hits, including a pair of doubles, three RBI, and scored a run for the Falcons (7-13, 4-7). Asa Swanson had two hits and scored twice, and Nick Acton doubled, drew two walks, drove in a pair of runs, and scored a run.
Spencer Bruce homered, drew two walks, drove in three runs, and scored twice for the Cougars (4-18, 1-9). Gus Nunns had two of the Cougars' five hits.
Sophomore Elliott Smith, the winning pitcher, gave up one hit and two walks over four scoreless innings and struck out two batters.
Scotts Valley plays at Half Moon Bay (11-9) in nonleague action on Saturday at noon.
SLV plays at Santa Cruz (10-9, 5-6) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
St. Francis 9, at Soledad 7: Freshman Angelo Urabe Chavez had two hits, two RBI, and three runs scored for the Sharks in their PCAL Gabilan Division win Friday.
Junior Nicky Fantl had two hits, one RBI, and scored three runs for the Sharks (7-15-1, 7-10), and sophomore Jacob Fonseca had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored.
Sophomore Jordan Nichols was 5-for-5 batting with three RBI, and two runs scored for the Aztecs (7-15-1, 2-15).
St. Francis hosts Hollister (14-8, 13-4) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
At Palma 12, MVC 1; 5 inn.: Senior Luke Netzer had the lone hit for the Mustangs in their PCAL Gabilan Division loss Friday.
Palma finished with 11 hits, drew five walks, and stole 13 bases. Senior Rocco Razzeca had two hits, four RBI, and scored twice for the Chieftains. Junior Wyatt Nunes had three hits, three stolen bases, and scored three times, and senior Matt Alioto had two hits, three stolen bases, and two RBI.
MVC (6-16, 3-14) hosts Monterey (11-11, 9-8) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
High school softball
At MVC 15, Greenfield 4; 5 inn.: Addison Boles and Ava Alvarado homered in the Mustangs' PCAL Cypress Division win Friday.
Boles finished with four hits and five RBI, and Alvarado had three hits and two RBI.
Sophia Lopez had three hits, three RBI, and scored twice for the Mustangs (10-12, 5-7). Addison Silva had two hits, one RBI, and scored three runs. Sofia Calomeni had a hit, one RBI, and scored three runs. Samantha Bertoldi had a hit and scored twice, and Juliana Lopez had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run.
MVC plays at division leading North Monterey County (15-6, 11-1) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Men's tennis
At Mary Washington 4, UC Santa Cruz 0: The No. 1 seed Eagles won the doubles point and secured three singles wins in straight sets to secure the team win Friday at the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament semifinals in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
UCSC's Benjamin Wang lost to Trevor Rein 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Peter Liang lost to Evan Fisher 6-3, 6-3 in the tightest match at No. 6 singles
The Eagles improved to 19-6.
No. 4 UCSC (10-14) faces No. 3 Salisbury (9-8) in the third-place match on Saturday at 7 a.m.
