Paige Bueckers Lost Rock, Paper, Scissors Bet to Fan - See What Happened Next

The Dallas Wings finished with a league-worst 10-34 record in 2025, but the Wings aren’t a typical basement dweller.

Why?

The Wings have Paige Bueckers.

Dallas drafted Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Despite the Wings’ inability to win, Bueckers’ individual star power immediately translated to the WNBA.

Bueckers won Rookie of the Year and earned All-Star and All-WNBA honors last year, and her shot creation and shot-making look even better to start her second season as a pro.

The Wings beat the Indiana Fever, 95-80, in their preseason game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday. Bueckers led the team with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor (4-of-6 from three), but she couldn’t shoot rock, paper, scissors to save her life.

Before the game, the Wings posted a video of a fan challenging Bueckers to a rock-paper-scissors match. The stakes? Bueckers shoes. Bueckers and the unnamed fan both shot rocks to start, but the fan’s rock crushed Bueckers’ scissors in the second round.

Bueckers was gracious in defeat, taking the shoes off her feet and signing them for the fan, who profusely thanked Bueckers and called her “literally the G.O.A.T.”

Bueckers won’t be able to stomach losses as easily once the WNBA’s 30th season begins on May 8.

The Wings drafted Azzi Fudd, Bueckers’ former UConn teammate, with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft on April 13, and Bueckers’ chemistry with four-time All-Star guard Arike Ogunbowale should strengthen in year two of playing together. The talent is there to compete and potentially contend now.

If this team finished toward the bottom of the league again, it’ll fall on first-year head coach Jose Fernandez’s shoulders. Dallas will open its 2026 regular season against Indiana on Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. EST on ABC.

For now, watch Bueckers’ wholesome rock-paper-scissors interaction below.
