Mira Costa, Bishop Montgomery girls beach volleyball teams in CIF-SS finals

The Mira Costa girls beach volleyball team is back in the CIF Southern Section championships.

The Mustangs won titles in the first two years of the CIF-SS championships and lost to Redondo Union in the finals last year. They face JSerra in the Division 1 final Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Long Beach City College.

The top-seeded Mustangs swept Oaks Christian (5-0) in the quarterfinals and San Marcos (5-0) in the semifinals.

JSerra stopped a potential fourth consecutive Mira Costa-Redondo matchup in the finals by defeating the Sea Hawks 3-2 in the semifinals.

Mira Costa defeated JSerra (4-1) in the season opener Feb. 25.

Bishop Montgomery in Division 2 final

Bishop Montgomery's girls beach volleyball team will face top-seeded Edison in the CIF-SS Division 2 final Saturday at noon at Long Beach City College.

The Knights, the Del Rey League champion, defeated Santa Barbara (5-0), Thousand Oaks (3-2) and San Clemente (4-1) to reach the finals.

Mira Costa, Redondo Union begin playoffs Tuesday

After having first-round byes in the CIF-SS Division 1 boys volleyball playoffs, top-seeded Mira Costa and No. 2-seeded Redondo Union will be in action Tuesday.

The Mustangs (31-2) will host South Coast League champion Tesoro (23-6) at 6 p.m. The teams met in the Best of the West Tournament in March with Mira Costa winning 25-23, 25-15.

The Sea Hawks (26-3) will host Trinity League champion Santa Margarita (29-10).

The semifinals are May 9 and the finals are May 15 and May 16.

Palos Verdes, Mira Costa in girls lacrosse playoffs

The Mira Costa and Palos Verdes girls lacrosse teams open the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs Saturday.

The Sea Kings (13-6) are at top-seeded Santa Margarita at 5 p.m. Second-seeded Mira Costa (14-3) will host JSerra at 5 p.m.

Redondo Union's first-round game against Mater Dei was moved to Friday.

In Division 2, El Segundo defeated San Marcos 8-7 in Thursday's second round.

The Eagles will host Royal in the quarterfinals Thursday, May 7.
