49ers Encouraged to Go All-In on Bosa Brother Reunion
Joey and Nick Bosa have both wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks both at Ohio State and in the NFL.
Both brothers are five-time Pro Bowlers, and both won Defensive Rookie of the Year during their respective debut seasons.
Nick is currently a member of the San Francisco 49ers, but Joey is still available on the free-agent market. 49ers fans have been advocating for the team to sign the elder Bosa, but general manager John Lynch made it seem like that wasn't likely to happen back in March.
"I know momma Bosa would love that, but I don't know if we can afford him," Lynch said.
However, San Francisco still has $44.97 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap, and Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports thinks the team should go all-in on Joey given its need to add another pass-rusher opposite his brother.
"The 49ers had one of the most anemic pass rushes in the NFL in 2025, and while injuries to Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams played their parts, San Francisco still needs to be better," Pereles wrote. "A Bosa brother tandem could work well in that instance, as Joey showed he can still get it done."
Though Joey will turn 31 in a few months, he's still got enough left in the tank to be disruptive in San Francisco's defensive scheme.
Last season with the Bills, he logged 54 pressures, 36 hurries, 13 QB hits, 29 tackles, five sacks, and five forced fumbles, per Pro Football Focus. With Nick, 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams, Keion White, and 2026 third-round pick Romello Height, the pressure would be off Joey to step in and be an immediate double-digit sack contributor.
Joey is still one of the more sought-after free agents left on the market, so it's possible if San Francisco does want him, it could have some competition.
