Chicago White Sox rookie Tanner Murray fractures shoulder, will likely miss the remainder of the season | Local Roundup
Chicago White Sox rookie Tanner Murray suffered a left shoulder dislocation and fracture making a diving catch on Sunday and will likely miss the remainder of the season, MLB.com reported.
The outlet reported that the injury will require surgery.
"It's significant," White Sox manager Will Venable said. "He'll be out four to six months, and hopefully it's on the quicker end. It's a significant chunk of time that he will miss."
Murray, a San Lorenzo Valley High and UC Davis alum, laid on his stomach for several minutes after robbing the Washington Nationals' CJ Abrams of a hit on his sacrifice fly for the second out in the 10th inning. Daylen Lile scored the first run of the game on the play and the Nationals won 2-1.
Murray saw action in left field in seven of his 13 games with the White Sox.
"The news was definitely a little surprising," Murray said. "I knew I didn't feel good in the moment, but yeah, it was a little bit of a frustrating kind of trip to the doctor, I'd say."
The White Sox placed Murray on the IL on Monday and recalled outfielder Austin Hays returned from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Triple-A Charlotte.
"I've been injured in some crazy ways before," Murray said. "But looking back, I'm happy how I played, I'm happy how I went after the ball, I'm glad I caught it. I don't have any regrets so far."
In 13 games, he hit .215 (6 for 28) with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. He drew two walks and struck out seven times.
