Giants Rookie Teaches NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell His Celebration Dance

Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Colton Hood was one of 16 players who attended the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh last Thursday night.

By the end of the first round, Hood was left waiting in the green room, but he didn’t have to wait very long for the New York Giants to select him with the fifth pick of the second round (No. 37 overall) on Friday night.

Hood injects youth into a positional need on the Giants’ roster and figures to see plenty of playing time as a rookie. He already has his celebration prepared for when he makes his first big NFL play.

Hood unleashed his “put on your hood” celebration after breaking up a pass throughout last season at Tennessee, as seen here. Ian Rapoport posted a video Monday night showing Hood endearingly teaching NFL commissioner Roger Goodell how to do it:

It’s a simple choreography, so Giants fans might want to practice as well. Acknowledging the drastic step up in competition from college to the NFL, Hood could make it a mainstay at MetLife Stadium next season.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, “Hood had 72 pass attempts against as the primary defender in FBS without allowing a touchdown since 2023. That tied for second among all defenders, trailing only Arizona defensive back Treydan Stukes.”

Funnily enough, Stukes was the very next player off the board after Hood, as the Las Vegas Raiders selected him 38th overall.

Hood began his collegiate career at Auburn, but only played four games as a redshirt reserve in 2023. He transferred to Colorado and played under head coach Deion Sanders in 2024, playing all 13 games. Then, he transferred again to Tennessee in 2025 and earned All-SEC Third Team honors.

Before Hood, the Giants selected Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese fifth overall and Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa 10th overall in the first round. See John Harbaugh’s full first draft class as Giants head coach here.
