Santa Cruz's Big Stick Surfing Association takes second at Logjam! 2026 | Local Roundup
Santa Cruz's Big Stick Surfing Association (13,043 points) took second to Windansea Surf Club of La Jolla (13,084) in the team standings at the two-day Logjam! 2026 contest, which concluded Sunday at Pleasure Point.
Santa Cruz Longboard Union (12,279) took third. Pedro Point Surf Club (9,989) and Hope Ranch Surf Club (9,743) rounded out the top five.
In addition to the ocean action at Logjam! - more than 100 competitors from surf clubs in the Western U.S. competed on classic, pre-1970 boards - entrants and spectators enjoyed an aloha vibe while socializing, visiting local vendors, and listing to surf music.
Windansea Surf Club had seven division winners: Stephen Baker (grandmaster men), Tommy Coleman (junior men), Ozstar De Jourday (kahunas), Miranda Joseph (lady legends), Joel Tudor (masters men), Tommy Coleman (paddle), and Tudor and Coleman (aloha team).
Santa Cruz Longboard Union had four division winners: London Lorber (menehune), Healey Skelton (junior women), Nohemi Kawasaki (women), and Matt Micuda (legends).
Big Stick Surfing Association's Anthony Daddario took first in the senior men's division and was named the Hot Dogger Logger with a 282 total, which was matched by WSC's Tudor.
Bay Cities Surf Club's Rachel Lord (masters women) and Hope Ranch Surf Club's Trey Martino (men) posted first-place finishes.
Daddario earned the highest score (185) during the Aloha competition on Saturday.
Gymnastics
Region 2 Trampoline and Tumbling Championships: Vargas Academy in Scotts Valley had 20 athletes post top-three finishes at USA Gymnastics' Region 2 Trampoline and Tumbling Championships, which ran Friday through Sunday at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz.
Athletes competed in the trampoline (TRA), double mini trampoline (DMT), and tumbling (TUM).
Simon Carne, 29, who reside in San Francisco, took first in the Open (88.340).
Alex Del Chiaro, 14, took first in Junior DMT (38.300), Junior TRA (40.370), and Junior DMT (41.700).
Ethan Andrews, 16, took first in both Level 9 DMT (42.800) and Level 9 TUM (40.800).
Bryce Galassi, 12, took first Level 9 TUM (33.700), second in Youth Elite (YE) 13-14 TRA (42.800), and third in YE 13-14 DMT (43.500), and Kyle Schottgen, 13, took first in YE 13-14 DMT (47.400).
Eliana Schottgen, 10, took second in Level 8 TRA (53.100), Level 8 DMT (39.900), and Level 6 TUM (24.700).
Zen Sawada, 9, took first in both Level 8 TRA (50.700) and Level 8 DMT (39.600), and Aiden Eidsmore, 7, took first in both Level 5 DMT (36.100) and Level 3 TUM (36.600).
Parker Lang, 7, took first in Level 5 TUM (34.600) and Level 5 TRA (14.100), and second in Level 5 DMT (19.000).
Annie Smart, 11, took first in Level 9 DMT (42.400) and second in Level 9 TRA (53.600); Emily Guiver, 14, took first in Level 8 DMT (41.200) and third in Level 9 TRA (54.700); and Alana Del Chiaro, 16, took first in Level 9 TUM (33.400).
Tadeo Sotomayor, 12, took second in both Level 9 TRA (51.600) and Level 9 DMT (40.500), and Izea Bayer Fresco, 11, took second in both Level 9 TRA (50.900) and Level 9 DMT (40.200)
Hunter Siegel, 11, took second in both Level 8 TRA (52.600) and Level 3 TUM (35.100).
Britton Wilbur, 13, took second in Level 10 TRA (81.620) and third in Level 10 DMT (40.900), and Evan McMullen, 15, took third in Level 10 DMT (43.700) and Level 10 TRA (84.430).
Wyatt Evans, 8, took second in Level 3 TUM (35.600), third in Level 5 DMT (30.700), and third in Level 5 TRA (14.400).
Ada Viznyuk, 9, third in Level 6 DMT (35.000), and Dakota DeCastro, 10, took third in Level 3 TRA (16.400).
Cycling
Growler Road Race: Ten cyclists from. Santa Cruz County competed in Skipstone's Growler Road Race at Levi's Gran Fondo in Windsor on Saturday. More than 950 riders competed in the event.
The Growler route totaled 13,851 feet of elevation over 137.5 miles.
Santa Cruz's Sarah Mensinger, 30, third in The Gran Women overall in 7:01:33, and Soquel's Jon Erskine (7:44:52), 56, took first in the Men's U60 group.
Santa Cruz's Jason Ryan (6:27:38), Richard Owens (6:41:28), and Scott Felgner (9:11:19), and Scotts Valley's Amanda Rotella (9:11:35) challenged themselves on The Gran route, which totaled 10,186 feet of elevation over 113.3 miles.
The Geysers route totaled 6,000 feet of elevation over 81 miles. Santa Cruz's Matt Garcia (5:29:22), Tony Sirois (6:17:47), Ben Beard (6:21:21), Aaron Wainscoat (6:23:39), and Divyansh Pal (6:58:31) finished the race.
