Four Aztecs picked up as undrafted free agents; Tampa Bay drafts Helix alum Keionte Scott
The 2026 NFL Draft concluded with one San Diego State player among the 257 players selected across seven rounds, although other Aztecs will have a chance to make it in the league.
SDSU cornerback Chris Johnson was selected in Thursday's first round by the Miami Dolphins. While none of Johnson’s teammates were selected, a handful were picked up Saturday afternoon as undrafted free agents.
The group included kicker Gabe Plascencia (Chicago), offensive tackle Christian Jones (Cincinnati), edge rusher Niles King (Los Angeles Chargers) and cornerback Bryce Phillips (Kansas City).
Plascencia set SDSU's career accuracy record for field goals (36-for-41, .878) over the past two-plus seasons. He had a solid Pro Day, making 2 of 3 attempts from beyond 60 yards.
The 6-foot-9, 335-pound Jones was a three-year starting left tackle for the Aztecs, whose size and versatility earned him a look. Phillips, a starter after transferring from Tennessee State, impressed scouts with his physical play, tackling and run defense. King had 6 1/2 sacks among his 30 tackles for the Aztecs.
Tampa Bay takes Keionte Scott
University of Miami cornerback Keionte Scott (Helix High School) was drafted in the fourth round Saturday by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Scott was among the fastest players at the NFL Combine, clocking a 4.33 40-yard dash. He’s an instinctive corner noted for his run defense and blitzing abilities. Scott, a key player in Miami’s run to the national championship game, returned two interceptions for touchdowns during the season.
