Rams Fans Aren't Happy With Ty Simpson Pick
The Los Angeles Rams shocked the world during the NFL Draft last night, using the No. 13 overall pick to select Alabama QB Ty Simpson despite already having a starter in Matthew Stafford. But while the move was surprising to fans of 31 teams, it seemed to be infuriating to Rams fans.
Despite what ESPN's Dan Orlovsky wants us to think, Simpson was not widely viewed as a first-round prospect, let alone a top-15 one. The consensus was that he would either fall to the early second round of the 2026 NFL Draft or maybe a team with an early second-round pick in dire need of a QB like the Cardinals or Jets might trade up to get him in the 30s.
But the Rams making a long-term investment at No. 13 rather than a more immediate investment in a real position of need shocked everyone.
Rams fans have made their displeasure with the move clear, getting pissed off about seemingly everything from Simpson's IG account updates to Rams GM Les Snead's process.
"This (expletive) JUST got drafted and he already updating the IG profile, yeah (expletive) just annoyed me even more," one Rams fan complained on X.
"Not even gonna hate on Ty its not his fault. Snead was huffing glue in the draft room," wrote another.
"Now we see why the rams never have 1st round picks," a third wrote.
"Wasting the 13th overall pick on a future career backup QB has to be one of the worst picks in years, if not the worst. This is something I'd expect from the Browns, not the Rams."
"McVay should be annoyed they have a win now roster that could have used a Lemon or Saddiq especially since (Davante Adams) is older."
State of the Rams
The Los Angeles Rams were just one game away from reaching the Super Bowl this year and had plenty of needs that they could have turned into a strength with the No. 13 pick.
While it's possible that Simpson could see action in 2026 and maybe even thrive with Sean McVay as his head coach, there's going to be a lot of feelings that the Rams missed a golden opportunity to strike while the iron is hot and potentially reach another Super Bowl with Matthew Stafford.
If the Rams regress in 2026, Les Snead is going to have a lot to answer for.
