Dianna Russini Gets Crushed For Deleting Social Media Account
NFL insider Dianna Russini has some explaining to do, but we're just not sure when that'll happen.
Page Six sent the NFL world into a frenzy earlier this month by sharing photos of Russini and Vrabel holding hands at an Arizona hotel. According to Front Office Sports, those pictures were shopped around by an anonymous tipper who was seeking a four-figure payday. Even though it seemed like an intimate setting, Russini denied any wrongdoing.
"The photos don't represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day," Russini said during her initial statement. "Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues."
One week later, Russini resigned from her position with The Athletic. However, she reiterated that she did nothing wrong.
"In the days that followed, unfortunately, commentators in various media have engaged in self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts," Russini said in her resignation latter. "Moreover, this media frenzy is hurtling forward without regard for the review process The Athletic is trying to complete. It continues to escalate, fueled by repeated leaks, and I have no interest in submitting to a public inquiry that has already caused far more damage than I am willing to accept. Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now - before my current contract expires on June 30. I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career."
Vrabel, meanwhile, showed remorse during this Thursday night's press conference.
"I want to address the news regarding my current situation. I understand that there are questions, but I take accountability for my actions and the actions that caused a distraction to the people that I care most about: my family, this football team, the organization, and our fans. My previous actions don't meet the standard that I hold myself to. They don't. And what I believe is best for the two most important things in my life: my family and this football team, is for us to take the necessary steps to work together and to give them what I told them I'd give them, which is the best version of me-and that's what we're going to do. And that's going to start, that has started, and that'll continue this weekend, and it'll continue for however long it takes for me to give them-and to complete that promise of giving them the best version of me possible."
After Vrabel wrapped up Thursday's press conference, NFL fans noticed that Russini deleted her account on the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Fans react to Russini deleting her account.
Let's just say NFL fans aren't showing a ton of mercy in regards to Russini's situation.
"Insane behavior, face the music head on," one fan said. "It's all deserved."
"That is rough! She should have done this so long ago," a second fan commented. "I cant believe she waited so long."
"This was truly a disasterclass in how to handle a mess," another fan said. "I honestly think if she just owned it and apologized, she may have gotten another gig."
"She couldn't handle the smoke," a social media user wrote.
There were plenty of bizarre tweets from Russini that were gaining serious traction this Thursday. Perhaps that's why she shut her account down for now.
As for Russini's career as an NFL insider, it's unclear if she'll ever return to the spotlight.
