Chico State men's golf crowned CCAA Champions

STOCKTON - The Chico State men's golf team was tied with Cal State San Bernardino for first place at the end of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, but after three playoff holes the Wildcats were crowned CCAA Champions for the first time since 2018 on Wednesday at The Reserves at Spanos Park in Stockton.

Ty Weaver and Giuseppe Aliotti led the Wildcats in the third and final round of competition, with Weaver getting an eagle on the par-5 second hole and going bogey-free on the front nine to finish the final round with a tournament low of 2-under par 70. Aliotti finished the final day even at par 72, along with teammate Naoki Easterday who finished with three birdies on the back nine to finish even at par 72. Alex LemMon (77, +5) and Vineet Vallamsetty (78, +6) finished the Wildcats' scoring.

After three days/rounds Cal State San Marcos' Gavin McCormick finished first on the individual leaderboard at 4-under par, Cal San San Bernardinos' Aaron Parayno was second at 2-under par, Aliotti and Weaver finished in a tie for third place at 1-under par, and Easterday finished fifth when an even scorecard.

As a team the Wildcats finished their final round with a team score of 3-over par 291, taking advantage of late mistakes by San Bernardino. The Coyotes led late, but had two bogeys and a double bogey to force the playoff holes.

The Wildcats will now prepare to take on The Reserves Spanos Park once again at the NCAA West Regionals from May 7-9. The NCAA Championships will be held May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nevada.
