Scotts Valley boys volleyball earns sweep of Watsonville | Local Roundup
Senior setter Troy Thompson served seven aces, and made 28 assists, four digs, and two kills, and Scotts Valley High's boys volleyball team earned a 25-9, 25-8, 25-18 of visiting Watsonville in the teams' nonleague match Tuesday.
Sophomore outside Bentley Clarkson had 10 kills, three aces, and two digs for the Falcons (6-17 overall). Senior outside hitter Will Shanks had seven kills, 13 digs, and three aces, and middle Ben Luckey had five kills and eight digs.
Junior middle Jake Locatelli added four kills, and junior libero Diego Guzman had six digs and two aces.
On Wednesday, Watsonville hosts Oakwood at 5 p.m., and Scotts Valley hosts Hollister (6-16) at 6 p.m.
Santa Cruz 3, at Aptos 1: Junior outside hitter Matty Rayray had 20 kills, four aces, seven digs, and two blocks, and the Cardinals earned a 25-23, 25-7, 25-27, 25-13 win in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action on Tuesday.
Senior setter Nathan Monroe had five kills on seven attempts, and made 26 assists and three digs for the Cardinals (20-10, 9-1). Senior outside hitter Charlie Hess had nine kills, 13 digs, and two blocks.
The Mariners dropped to 1-13, 0-10.
On Thursday at 6 p.m., Santa Cruz hosts Soquel, and Aptos hosts San Lorenzo Valley.
Pacific Collegiate 3, at Everett Alvarez 0: Junior Leif McKarther totaled 12 kills, 11 aces, and eight digs, and the Pumas earned a 25-18, 25-18, 25-22 sweep in their PCAL Mission Division match on Tuesday.
Senior outside hitter Son Mai-Clark had 15 kills, three aces, and six digs for the Pumas (8-5, 5-1).
Junior outside hitter Emmet Partland had nine kills. Junior libero Bohdi Partland made four digs, and junior defensive specialist Nico Mora-Shulman served four aces.
PCS hosts Seaside (1-12, 0-4) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Boys lacrosse
Soquel 8, at Salinas 6: Devin De La Rosa and TJ Kusanovich each scored three goals, and the Knights won their PCAL Mission Division match on Tuesday evening.
Jed Del Favero had two goals and an assist for the Knights (15-0, 8-0).
Goalies Barry Lombardi and Daniel Bjorn split action and made a combined five saves.
Salinas dropped to 3-3 in league.
Soquel plays at MVC (8-3, 5-1) on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Girls lacrosse
Stevenson 22, Soquel 3: Senior midfielder Addie Somerville scored three goals and had eight draw controls, but the Knights lost to the unbeaten Pirates in PCAL action Tuesday.
Sophomore defender Margot Rawlings had five forced turnovers for the Knights (5-3, 4-3).
Brogan Dolata scored three goals to lead the Pirates (9-2, 5-0), the No. 11 ranked team in the CCS by maxpreps.com.
Sophomore goalie Gianna Williams made 14 saves for the Knights.
Soquel plays at Harker in San Jose on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Boys golf
At SLV 178, Santa Cruz 194: Tanner Brewer shot 1-under-par 30 to secure medalist honors and lead the Cougars to victory during the teams' rainy, SCCAL make-up match at Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club on Tuesday.
Brewer recorded birdies on hole Nos. 1 and 5.
Garret Dahlen (33), Carson Chubb (38), Isaac Skinner (38), and Lochlin Bischofberger (39) also scored for the Cougars (6-4). SLV threw out Ryder Schram's 41.
Santiago Toledo (35), Gavin Eaton (36), Fischer Howard (41), Noah Nakazawa (41), and Bodi Weld (41) scored for the Cardinals (0-10).
The SCCAL Individual Championship takes place at Pasatiempo Golf Club on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
