Isla Terrill and Malachi McFarland perform well at Mt. SAC Relays

Monrovia sophomore Isla Terrill showed her versatility in the distance events at the 66th annual Mt. SAC Relays over the weekend, proving once again she is a rising star.

Terrill, who won the girls 1-mile open competion last week at the Arcadia Invitational, ran even better in Friday's 1-mile invitational race at Mt. SAC. Terrill shaved four seconds off last week's time with a second-place finish and personal-best run of 4:50.50. She was second to Palo Altos' Amaya Bharadwaj in 4:47.10.

Arcadia's top distance runner Charlotte Hopkins did well too, finishing fifth in 4:56.64.

Terrill returned on Saturday and competed against a loaded field in the girls 800 meter invitational, finishing seventh in a personal best 2:10.97, which is a top ten mark in the CIF Southern Section this season. Terrill's time also bettered last week's mark at the Arcadia Invational where she turned in a 2:11.69.

La Serna's Xiomara Lewis was also hoping to perform well, and did with her personal-best time of 2:12.22, which was good enough for tenth place.

Damien's football star and speedster Malachi McFarland was the lone San Gabriel Valley champion at Mt. SAC, winning a boys 100-meter seeded race in a personal-best time of 10.45. The CIF-SS is loaded with speedsters and that mark gives McFarland the tenth best time in the CIF-SS this season.

Just last week, McFarland ran a 10.71 at Arcadia. McFarland should have a chance to medal in the CIF-SS Division 3 competition this season.

La Serna junior Maxa Hoxie did well to finish eighth in the girls 3,200-meter invitational, running a personal best 10:48.10. That improved her February mark at the Condor Invitational by more than 10 seconds.

West Covina senior Becky Osorio faded to 13th place, crossing in 10:59.90

La Serna's Thomas Barrera turned in a personal-best in the boys 3,200 meter invitational, finishing ninth in 9:13.93, which is the top mark in the SGV this season. Barrera's teammate, Will Quatro, didn't have his best race, finishing 16th in 9:18.22.

La Serna's Erick DeLeon opted to run in the boys 1-mile invitational, but struggled to a 22nd place finish in 4:20.66. DeLeon is one of the area's top middle distance runners. He has run 4:14.22 in the 1,600 meters and is the SGV's top 800 meter runner.

Walnut's Brenden Neeley didn't expect to win the boys 110 hurdles invitational race, he wanted to test himself against the best field he's faced this season. Neeley finished seventh in 14.26. He faded down the stretch, but has done better, having run a personal best 13.94 at the Downey Invitational in March.

Rio Hondo Prep's sophomore pole vaulter Braeden Yokoyama qualified for the boys invitational pole vault, and turned in a personal best jump of 15 feet, three inches to finish 11th. Yokoyama will not only be in contention for a CIF-SS title later this season, but also could be a state qualifer.

Covina's Sofia Jara finished ninth in the invitational girls triple jump with a mark of 36-8 1/2. Jara is one of the best jumpers in the CIF-SS. She has a personal-best of 38-9, which is fifth-best in the CIF-SS this season. She also turned in a long jump mark of 17-7 in a seeded event.
