Joe Burrow News Emerges Following Bengals' Dexter Lawrence Trade
The Cincinnati Bengals made one of the biggest moves in the NFL over the weekend, trading their No. 10 overall pick in Thursday's NFL Draft to the New York Giants in exchange for three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.
Lawrence was seeking a contract extension - one he and the Giants could not agree on - which ultimately led to his trade request. New York did not take long to honor it.
Despite having two years remaining on his deal, the Bengals quickly signed Lawrence to a one-year, $28 million extension, giving them a centerpiece in the middle of a defense that has been among the league's worst over the past few seasons.
The move signals a clear "all-in" approach, likely centered around maximizing the window with superstar quarterback Joe Burrow.
On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the upcoming season is considered "hugely significant" for Burrow and his future in Cincinnati.
"This is a critical season for Joe Burrow in Cincinnati," Schefter said on ESPN's “Get Up.”
"The Bengals are doing what they can to make sure they try to win this year to keep Joe Burrow happy."

Rumors began to swirl in the middle of last season about Burrow being unhappy playing in Cincinnati, with some even suggesting he could want out. However, he was also dealing with yet another rehab process after suffering a freak toe injury in Week 2.
When healthy, Burrow is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. That said, he spent significant time sidelined due to injuries. Still, he - along with his parents - made it clear that he remains happy and committed to winning with the Bengals.
Schefter's point, though, still holds weight. A fourth consecutive season without a playoff appearance could potentially shift Burrow's mindset about his future. He remains under contract through 2029, however, meaning the Bengals would still hold most of the leverage in any scenario involving a potential departure.
