Aptos baseball rebounds from loss to SC with rout of Cardinals | Local Roundup

Freshman James Riley had three hits, five RBI, and scored a run, and Aptos High's baseball team beat visiting Santa Cruz 18-6 in the teams' Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League game Saturday.

The Mariners, who produced a season-high run total, finished with 17 hits, six walks and seven stolen bases.

Dom Castillo had three hits, one RBI, and scored twice for Aptos (9-4 overall, 5-2 SCCAL). Alec Mendoza had two hits, two RBI, and scored four runs. The Cardinals beat the Mariners 5-1 on Friday.

In Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action on Tuesday at 4 p.m., Aptos plays at Harbor (11-6, 4-3), and Santa Cruz (8-7, 3-4) hosts Scotts Valley (5-11, 2-5).

At San Lorenzo Valey 11, Lincoln (S.F.) 8: Porter Boyd had three hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored a run as the Cougars won their nonleague game Saturday.

The Cougars (3-15), who beat Harbor 3-1 on Friday, have consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Five of the Cougars' 12 hits went for extra bases. Sean Johnson had three hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Jesse Fulkerson had two hits and two RBI. Larrabee Mitchell and Spencer Bruce each had a hit and scored three runs. Bruce also drove in a run. Brody Egner doubled and scored twice.

Mitchell gave up five hits and four unearned runs over four innings and struck out five batters.

SLV hosts SCCAL leader Soquel (14-3, 6-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Sequoia 6, at Monte Vista Christian 5: The Mustangs gave up four runs in the seventh inning of their nonleague loss Saturday.

Senior Chase Bauen and junior Mikie Melenudo each had two hits and scored a run for the Mustangs (5-12). Sophomore Jake Moro had two hits and one RBI.

Seniors Mario Fausto and Morgan Winfield homered for the Ravens (11-5). Winfield finished with two hits, four RBI, and two runs scored, and Fausto had two hits and two RBI.

MVC hosts Salinas (5-12) on Monday at 4 p.m.

Boys lacrosse

Harbor 9, Latino College Prep 4: Junior Connor Gordin scored four goals on Saturday, and the Knights earned their first win since beating Soquel on March 16, 2016.

Sophomore goalie Joaquin Pacheco made 13 saves for the Pirates (1-11), who play at Latino College Prep (2-5) in San Jose on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

College softball

Cabrillo earns DH split: The Seahawks earned a nonconference doubleheader split at Santa Barbara City on Saturday, losing 3-2 in eight innings and winning 12-9.

The Seahawks (30-9) became the fifth team in the state, and third in the Coast Conference, to reach the 30-win mark this season.

Ariyah Morgan and Nick Powell homered in the Seahawks' win. Morgan finished with three hits, two RBI, two stolen bases, and scored four runs. Powell had three hits and five RBI.

Charileen Pauneto had three hits, two RBI, and scored a run for the Seahawks, and Bailey Fulton had three hits, one RBI, and scored a run.

Winning pitcher Makayla Ogan threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Sammi Korte doubled home Gracie Verdugo with the winning run in the eighth inning of the opener to lift the Vaqueros (17-22).

Cameron Llamas, Fulton, and Powell each had two hits for the Seahawks.

Cabrillo closes its regular season at San Mateo (36-1) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Women's tennis

UC Santa Cruz 6, at Mary-Hardin Baylor 1: The Banana Slugs won the doubles point and five of the six singles matches in their win in Belton, Texas, on Saturday.

Lucy Yung and Chloe Khachadourian earned third-set singles wins for the Banana Slugs, and UCSC's Chloe Wu, Meleja Horelick, and Veronica Miller won in straight sets.

UCSC (8-9) competes in the Coast-Too-Coast Conference Championships in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on May 2-3.

Men's tennis

At Mary-Hardin Baylor 5, UCSC 2: Gavin Sontag and Rocco Melendez earned singles wins for the Banana Slugs in their team loss in Belton, Texas, on Saturday.

UCSC (9-13) plays at Salisbury (9-4) in Maryland on April 29 at 11 a.m.

Boys tennis

At Stevenson 5, Santa Cruz 2: Lukas Novotny won 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 4 singles and and the Cardinals won at No. 1 doubles in their nonleague loss in Pebble Beach on Friday.

Santa Cruz (8-2) hosts Harbor on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Beach volleyball

Surf & Serve Showdown: Santa Cruz's Leo Tuncer and Marina Crawford took first in the coed division (one rated and one unrated) at No Attitudes' Surf & Serve Showdown Tournament at Main Beach in Santa Cruz on Saturday.

Other pairs division winners include: Sunnyvale's Nicholas Gildenhuys and Cupertino's Samantha Beaman (coed intermediate), Campbell's Conrad Dalton (Campbell) and Scotts Valley's Samantha Gonzalez (coed novice), Morgan Hill's Christian Vu and Santa Cruz's Jeff Siragusa (men's unrated), and Santa Cruz's Alice Taylor and Los Angeles' Tate Drageset (women's unrated).
