Castillo, Cervantes closing softball chapters at St. Mary's
Victoria Castillo and Tori Cervantes, two former all-county infielders in high school, flank each other in the outfield for the St. Mary's softball team.
Castillo, a second-team all-West Coast Conference selection last season, is putting together a career year in her final run for the Gaels, hitting .309 in 27 starts in right field.
A part of Alvarez's first CCS softball title team, Castillo has already established single-season career marks for homers (2) and runs batted in (11) for St. Mary's, while scoring 13 runs.
Cervantes, who moved to centerfield last year after starting at shortstop in 2024, has appeared in 28 games this year, hitting .288 with eight runs scored and four steals.
A second team all-WCC selection last year, nearly half of Cervantes’ hits this spring have gone for extra bases.
The former Notre Dame of Salinas slugger came into her final season tied for ninth in St. Mary's school history in runs scored with 76 and eighth in triples with seven.
Cervantes has been flawless in the outfield, having yet to commit an error this year for the Gaels, who are 30-12 overall and battling for a WCC title.
