Vanessa Trump 'Happy' With Tiger Woods' Rehab Plan
Golf fans received a much-needed update on Tiger Woods this weekend.
Unfortunately, Woods was arrested by the Martin County Sheriff's Office on March 27 on suspicion of DUI. It was then reported that pain pills were found in his pocket at the scene of the crash. Although the Masters were just around the corner, Woods announced that he was stepping away from golf to focus on his health.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery," Woods said in a statement. "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
Woods' girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, reportedly had a few demands for him after he was arrested in Florida.
"She had specific criteria," a source told the Daily Mail. "This has to be a real rehab: doctors, counsellors. Obviously there's a big physical component… these are prescribed drugs for legitimate pain and sleeping issues. This isn't meth. So this has to be doctor supervised. It's pain management gone awry. But she set a hard line: Fix this, and fix it permanently. She's not like other girlfriends. She required it and it was non-negotiable."
It was then reported that Trump was concerned about Woods' mental and physical health. Obviously, the situation he put himself in isn't easy to navigate.
"People are quick to judge Tiger, but he's living through a lot of pain and has been for enough years where it has taken a toll on his quality of life in addition to his golf game," an insider told People. "He is committed now to getting better, however long that takes. His family is behind him. They support him."
The good news, however, is that Woods is making progress at a rehab center. According to Daily Mail, his girlfriend is "happy" with the updates she's hearing at this time.
"He's got a pain management doctor who is helping him deal with his body pain without addictive opioids," an insider told Daily Mail. "He calls or Zooms a small number of people: Vanessa, his kids, Mark Steinberg. He's responding well to treatment, and Vanessa is very happy with what she's hearing."
Will we ever see Tiger Woods back on the PGA Tour?
The legendary Jack Nicklaus has already made it known that he'd like to see Woods back on the golf course as long as he's healthy.
"Whatever you need to help you and get back," Nicklaus said, via the New York Post. "Because I think golf needs him, and we'd love to have him back."
Would the PGA Tour welcome Woods back? We'd have to imagine the answer would be yes, especially since they already offered their support to the 15-time major champion.
"Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures the sports world has ever known. Over the last year, I have come to deeply appreciate Tiger not only for his impact on the game, but for his friendship and the perspective he has shared with me as I joined the golf industry," PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said. "My thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support."
Only time will tell if Woods can make another improbable comeback.
