Mira Costa receives No. 1 seed and Redondo No. 2 in Division 1 beach volleyball playoffs
The first three years of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 girls beach volleyball playoffs ended with Bay League rivals Mira Costa and Redondo Union meeting in the finals.
Mira Costa won the CIF-SS title in 2023, sweeping Redondo 5-0.
In 2024, the Mustangs repeated as champions, winning 4-1. Last year, the Sea Hawks claimed the title, defeating the Mustangs 3-2.
Will there be a fourth consecutive matchup in the finals? Possibly.
The teams split their two regular-season meetings. Redondo (14-2) won the first match 3-2 on March 3 and Mira Costa (21-1) won the second meeting, 3-2, on March 24.
Mira Costa was give the No. 1 seed Friday in the eight-team Division 1 playoff bracket. It will open the playoffs against Oaks Christian on Thursday.
Redondo is the No. 2 seed and will face Newport Harbor in the first round.
The semifinals are April 29 and the finals are May 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Long Beach City College.
Division 2
Del Rey League champion Bishop Montgomery is the No. 3 seed in Division 2. The Knights (10-1) will open the playoffs with a home match Wednesday against Santa Barbara.
Pioneer League co-champions West Torrance (9-1) and El Segundo (12-3) are also in Division 2. The Warriors will visit Ventura in the first round and the Eagles will face Pacific Coast League champion Laguna Beach.
Palos Verdes (6-5) will host Thousand Oaks on Wednesday. The Sea Kings finished third in the Bay League.
Division 3
South Torrance (6-7) is the top seed in Division 3. The Spartans, who finished third in the Pioneer League, have a first-round bye.
South will face Agoura or Xavier Prep in the second round Thursday.
Peninsula (10-8) will host Capistrano Valley in the first round Tuesday.
