Baseball: Analy outlasts Healdsburg in shootout; Mills throw gem for Santa Rosa
Analy 14, Healdsburg 12
The Tigers emerged victorious in a back-and-forth shootout with the Greyhounds on Wednesday to extend their lead atop the North Bay League-Redwood standings.
It's the eighth straight win for Analy (11-3, 7-0), which now holds a multi-game lead in first place with six games left in league play.
The Tigers led 2-0 early before Healdsburg (10-5, 4-3) scored five in the third inning to take the lead. Analy then went back on top thanks to a seven-run fifth inning.
Healdsburg got back within one after plating three runs in the top of the sixth before Hunter Thomas extended Analy's lead with a grand slam in the bottom of the inning.
Healdsburg again rallied with three more runs in the top of the seventh but ended the game with two runners on base.
Thomas finished 3-for-5 with a double and five RBIs while Donnie Rinkor also hit a solo home run and Nicky and Mikey Navarro drove in two runs apiece.
For Healdsburg, Hayden Mariani homered in a four-hit day, Isaiah Robles had three hits with two RBIs and Mason Radelfinger and Anthony Espinoza each had two RBIs.
The Tigers will go for the series sweep Friday at Rec Park in Healdsburg.
Santa Rosa 10, St. Vincent 0
Daniel Mills fired a masterful complete-game shutout, striking out 15 with just one hit allowed to lead the Panthers past the Mustangs in NBL-Redwood play Wednesday.
Mills got plenty of support from his offense as Santa Rosa (8-9, 5-3) scored five runs in the first inning to jump all over St. Vincent (5-8, 1-6).
Mason Rizo carried the loaded at the plate, doubling twice in a three-hit day with four RBIs. Will Philip also doubled with two RBIs and Emilio Juarez drove in a pair of runs on a hit.
The Panthers will now go for the season sweep of the Mustangs at home Friday.
Windsor 3, Ukiah 1
The Jaguars kept pace in the NBL-Oak race as they dispatched the Wildcats on the road on Wednesday.
Starting pitcher AJ Rakoski was masterful, allowing just one hit and one run with six strikeouts over five innings of work. Gavin Restad finished the job with two scoreless innings to help Windsor (10-6, 5-1) win its third in a row and fifth out of its last six.
The Jaguars took the lead with two runs in the fourth, the first off an RBI triple from Kason Witherell, and the second when Witherell scored on a passed ball a batter later. Restad, who had two hits on the night, extended the lead to 3-1 with an RBI single in the fifth.
Beau David pitched well in defeat for Ukiah (11-7, 2-5), striking out nine with two hits and two runs (one earned) in four innings.
Windsor has now clinched the league series against the Wildcats and will go for the sweep at home Friday.
Rancho Cotate 16, Maria Carrillo 1
The Cougars scored eight runs in the second to kickstart a big day offensively as they breezed past the Pumas in NBL-Oak play Wednesday.
The 16 runs are a season high for Rancho Cotate (6-10, 2-3), which also clinched the season series against Maria Carrillo (5-9, 0-5) with the victory.
Aiden O'Sullivan was stellar on the mound, allowing just one hit and a run with two walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
Offensively, Luke Morie and Kale Yeomans each drove in a pair of runs and Caden Bolin Percy had two hits and scored three runs. Ten different players drove in at least one run for the Cougars.
The Pumas, who have now lost six in a row, were held to a season-low one hit on the afternoon.
The Cougars will host the Pumas as they go for the sweep on Friday.
Montgomery 36, Piner 0 (5 innings)
The Vikings unloaded on the Prospectors for what may be the most runs in a single game in program history on Wednesday.
Montgomery (7-8-1, 5-2) scored 13 runs in the first inning, 11 in the third and 10 more in the fourth on 18 hits.
Salvador "Bug" Pedroza had three hits, including a triple, with five RBIs, Nico Filice drove in three runs, Jonathon Ponce had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs, Justin Howard and Gavin Gillespie had two hits with an RBI and Adam Cramer and Joel Silva drove in two runs apiece.
On the mound, Cramer, Greyson Garris and Silva combined for 10 strikeouts, one walk and one hit allowed.
Piner fell to 0-11 on the year and 0-8 in league play.
The Vikings will go for the sweep Friday at Piner.
Sonoma Academy 13, Credo 5
The Coyotes rallied out of an early hole to stay unbeaten in North Central League II play Wednesday.
Trailing 5-0 early, Sonoma Academy (9-1, 5-0) erupted for 11 runs in the fifth to take over and pull away for good.
Sijie Zeng had three triples with five RBIs in the game while Ryan Crawford doubled with three RBIs. Madden Pelkey and Preston Haas both added two hits with an RBI.
Haas also earned the win out of the bullpen, going four scoreless innings with one hit, two walks and three strikeouts.
Ben Browne drove in two runs and Owen Carey had two hits for Credo (1-9, 1-2).
