Spartans lose a close one to Chico

Red Bluff High School Varsity softball team lost a close one to Chico High on Tuesday in Chico, 2-0. The Spartans gave up a first-inning run and a sixth-inning run in the loss.

Spartan picture Lorelei Jones pitched 6 innings of four-hit ball, allowed two runs, both earned, struck out three, and did not walk anybody. Natalee Ross led the offense, collecting two of the five Spartan hits.

Red Bluff did get the tying run on base in the top of the 7th inning as Olivia Owens and Kylie Orduno both singled with one out. But we're unable to capitalize as the next two hitters flew out to right and grounded out to end the game.

With the loss, the Spartans fell to 0-2 in Eastern Athletic League play and 5-6 overall. On Wednesday, they traveled to take on Orland.

Corning 10, Oroville 7: Makayla Lodin had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs to lead the Cardinals to the win over Oroville. Lodin Also got the win, pitching a complete game, allowing seven runs on nine hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Corning is now 1-1 in Westside League play and 8-11 overall.

On Friday, the Cardinals will host Las Plumas at 4 p.m.

Los Molinos 4, Burney 1: The Bulldogs defeated the Raiders in Los Molinos on Tuesday. No stats were provided, but the Bulldogs did move to 3-0 in Five Star League play and to 16-3 -1 overall. The Bulldog will host Chester on Friday, starting at 4 p.m.

Baseball

Red Bluff swept by Shasta: The Red Bluff varsity baseball team was swept by Shasta on Tuesday, 3- 3-2, and 10-0.

In the first game, the Spartans scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game with the Wolves, only to lose it in the bottom of the 6th.

Jace Ledbetter had a single and an RBI in the 6th inning, while Mason Lyford also had an RBI in the inning.

James Ramey held the Wolves to four hits in the six innings of work, allowed three runs, all of them unearned, walked just one hitter, and struck out 3.

In the nightcap, the Spartans were held to just one hit in the 10-0 loss. Red Bluff fell to 6-15 overall and 2-6 in Eastern Athletic League play. On Friday, the Spartans will host Shasta to close out the three-game set.
