Richard Torrez Jr. is back in the knockout column.

The Mission Oak alum made quick work on Issac Munoz Saturday night, winning by technical knockout in the third round over Issac Munoz at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Ariz.

Referee Raul Caiz watched as Torrez landed left hands often, both to the head and the body. He landed consecutive lefts to the head eventually forced Caiz Jr. to intervene.

Muñoz, Mexico’s top-rated heavyweight, suffered his first stoppage defeat. Time of stoppage: 0:59.

Torrez is now 12-0 with 11 knockouts.

But what caught Torrez by surprise is legend Julio Cesar Chavez commenting on his fight.

Torrez told a reporter Chavez gave him a nod the last time he fought in Arizona. This time, he couldn’t tell if he gave him a nod again.

“He’s an idol,” Torrez. “He’s someone I looked up to all my entire life, and I’m sorry I had to fight a guy from Mexico in front of him, but he’s an inspiration to me and I’m trying to be like as well.”

In Torrez’s last fight, the contest ended when Joey Dawejko was disqualified for repeatedly spitting out his mouthpiece, ending Torrez’s string of knockouts since turning pro in March 2022.
