Fresno City College rolls past Laney. Now Rams prepare for Valley Conference opener
Now it’s time for the Valley Conference for Fresno City College.
The Rams finished the nonconference portion of the schedule 5-1 after a 25-9 victory over Laney at Ratcliffe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The strongest suit for Fresno City is its defense.
Just ask Rams coach Tony Caviglia.
“Played really good on defense,” he said. “Our defense is progressing at a high rate. It’s always good to have and lean on when you have to. We did that today.”
The offense might want to thank the defense a lot because the offense is averaging 24.0 points per game, which ranks them 43rd in the state out of 65 teams.
Caviglia cites stronger competition as the reason the points per game are low. Laney allowed 23.6 points per game, ranking them 26th in the state.
Defensively, though, the Rams (5-1) are second in the state, just giving up 11.2 points per game.
Caviglia admits the offense “sputtered a little bit on offense.”
The Rams will probably need to score a lot in the Valley Conference opener against Modesto Junior College.
“We get in trouble adjusting to certain things,” Cavligia said. “It’s a work in progress. We’re still young in the offensive line, but it’s the sixth game and we got to push a little bit more. I’m not sure what the reason is.”
