NBA stars Paul George and Jalen Green to play basketball in Fresno. Where to catch them
Former San Joaquin Memorial standout and NBA veteran Quincy Pondxeter is putting together a star-studded basketball showcase this month.
Pondexter announced that former Fresno State star Paul George and former Panthers star Jalen Green will play in the Fresno Pro-Am season finale game that will be played Aug. 10 at Clovis North.
The finale will be played at 4 p.m.
Most importantly for Pondexter, he’s giving away 2,000 backpacks for kids. In the past, Pondexter held his youth camp at various high schools. He said he’s excited to give back to the community.
“When I became a coach (at University of Washington), it was like a rule I couldn’t do that anymore,” he said. “I had to pivot and still find a way to provide for my community and show the city of Fresno. I love it more than anything and to give back to the place that made me and my family the place I call home. To be able to give love back in any way possible is something I feel indebted to do.”
Bringing George and Green back to Fresno was another way to give the kids a highlight of their young basketball careers before they head back to school.
Pondexter also said former NBA player Isaiah Thomas will also play. It’s also possible new Sacramento Kings-signee Orlando Robinson will be in town, too.
“It’s something special,” Pondexter said.
Playstation 5 and other items will be given away through a raffle, he said.
The event is free and fans are asked to come early to get a seat. The Fresno Pro-Am championship is set for 2 p.m.
