Cal-High Sports tabs three locals to All-State baseball, softball teams
A pair of Clovis High standouts — Tevin Mitchell and Cameryn Reichle — were among the 60 athletes statewide named to Cal-Hi Sports’ All-State baseball and softball teams.
Mitchell was joined on the first-team baseball squad by Buchanan’s Zach Ashford. Reichle was the Central Section representative on the softball team.
Mitchell, a senior infielder headed to UC Santa Barbara, hit .336 with four triples, two homers, 18 steals and 27 runs for the section Division I runner-up Cougars.
Ashford, The Bee’s Baseball Player of the Year, hit .478 with 27 steals and 36 runs as a senior center fielder for the D-I champion Bears. He’s committed to Fresno State.
Reichle, a senior catcher who was The Bee’s Softball Player of the Year, hit .468 with a school-record 54 RBIs. The Fresno State recruit had seven doubles, three triples, two home runs and became only the second player in program history to produce more than 30 runs and 30 RBIs in a season.
Other section honorees on Cal-Hi Sports’ various all-state baseball teams include:
▪ Second-team: Central senior pitcher Colton Eastman, Buchanan senior pitcher Connor Loeprich, Buchanan senior infielder Chandler Bengsten and Centennial senior multi-purpose Andrew Hansen.
▪ Third-team: Clovis West senior catcher Jon Schafer, Clovis senior pitcher Preston Mott and Buchanan senior infielder Ross Dodds.
▪ Underclass first-team: Buchanan junior multi-purpose Grant Gambrell.
▪ Underclass second-team: Sanger sophomore infielder Jamal O’Guinn, Centennial sophomore infielder Colby Freeman and Clovis North junior outfielder Matt Frazier.
▪ Medium schools: Garces senior infielder Hudson Hartley.
▪ Small schools: Firebaugh senior infielder Josh Allen, Kern Valley senior infielder Dalton Gallis, Cesar Chavez senior outfielder Will Ruiz, Firebaugh senior multi-purpose Sal Alaniz and Dos Palos senior multi-purppose Efrain Del Rio.
Section softball honorees include:
▪ Second-team: Centennial senior infielder Madison Aurin and Taft senior infielder Caitlyn Emberson.
▪ Third-team: El Diamante senior catcher Rylee Pierce, Clovis senior infielder Cayla Broussard and Bullard senior outfielder Sienna Kendricks.
▪ Underclass second-team: Central sophomore pitcher Gianna Mancha and Buchanan sophomore multi-purpose Katie January.
▪ Medium schools first-team: Hanford West senior catcher Makenna Young, Ridgeview junior pitcher Samantha Mejia, Taft senior pitcher Arizona Pilgrim and Taft senior infielder Caitlyn Emberson.
▪ Medium schools second-team: Tehachapi senior infielder Kendall Kapitzke.
▪ Small schools first-team: Sierra Pacific senior catcher Kianna Molina, Riverdale senior pitcher Sierra Ipsen and Cesar Chavez junior infielder Grace Sotomayor.
▪ Small schools second-team: Firebaugh senior catcher Teddi Diedrich.
