Final Carr football camp of year Saturday in Bakersfield
Carr Elite will hold its final youth camp of the year at Bakersfield Christian on Saturday.
The camp will have two sessions, beginning at 9 a.m. with another at noon.
Carr Elite is run by the David and Derek Carr, the former star Fresno State quarterbacks.
“The reason we started is to give kids the positive influence on coaching, give kids professional background between my brother and I,” said Derek Carr, entering his second season as quarterback of the Oakland Raiders.
“There’s a lot of experience right there with kids trying to go to camps and do all those things. We’ve been at the highest level and we wanted to give back that knowledge to the community we’re from.
“Give these kids something they can look up to. Someone they can see and say, ‘Hey, this whole football thing can be fun’ and at the same time these guys aren’t yelling or screaming at me when they’re teaching me.”
Carr Elite held several camps in different cities, including in Fresno in March. Carr said another camp will be held in Fresno in 2016.
Cost is $150.
