Richard Torrez Jr. puts on a power display in his first fight in New York City
Richard Torrez Jr.’s first fight in New York City turned into another impressive showing in his young pro career.
And the Tulare native didn’t waste any time giving fans something to talk about.
Torrez knocked down Ahmed Hefny twice through two rounds and ended up winning by knockout in the third round in a scheduled six-round, heavyweight fight, on the undercard of Vasiliy Lomachenko-Jamaine Ortiz at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Torrez (4-0, 4 KOs) took it to Hefny in the first round when he connected on a left jab and a left hook to the face that sent him to the ropes before falling to the canvas.
He kept putting pressure on Hefny against the ropes in the third round before referee Arthur Mercante decided enough was enough.
Hefny was coming off three knockouts in his last six fights.
Torrez made his pro debut at the Save Mart Center in Fresno in March 2022, coming off a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
He’s just been dominating since he turned pro.
