Former Clovis West High star Tyler Ferguson, who pitched for Vanderbilt the past three seasons, has signed with the Texas Rangers.

Ferguson, a sixth-round pick (No. 168 overall), finalized his deal this week and was assigned to the Rangers’ Rookie League team in Arizona.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Ferguson finished his college career 11-6 with a 3.59 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 123 innings.

Ferguson had the worst year of his career this past season, bumped early from the rotation and finishing 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA with 24 strikeouts to 35 walks in 20 innings.

But the Rangers liked what they saw in his raw skills, a “plus-plus” fastball and curveball, Texas scouting director Kip Fagg told the Dallas Morning News.

Vanderbilt played for the College World Series championship the past two seasons, with the Comadores winning the national title in 2014 and finishing as the runner-up this season.
