Former boxing world champion Jose Ramirez surprises cancer patient. How you can help also

Just days before Jose Ramirez’s return to the boxing ring, he made a surprise visit Monday afternoon to a cancer patient at a northwest Fresno home.

Jessica Davis was diagnosed in September and has stage 4 uterus cancer. Ramirez wanted to lift her up by making a surprise appearance and tell her to keep fighting.

Davis was overwhelmed with joy and support from Ramirez’s team and many others.

“It makes it better,” she said. “I couldn’t do this by myself. With all the support from my family and friends is what keeps me going.”

The former world champion will donate $1 per ticket from his fight Friday at the Save Mart Center to help the family with medical costs. He also presented Davis with a replica WBC green championship belt.

“We came up with this ideal to really help her financially, by donating $1 dollar of every ticket that we sell this Friday night,” Ramirez said. “We definitely hope to have over 10,000 people and try to help out.”

The fights will begin at 5:30 p.m., featuring Ramirez against Jose Pedraza in the junior welterweight bout. Tulare native and Olympic silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr. will make his pro debut before Ramirez’s fight, which will be shown on ESPN.

Tickets can be purchased at the Save Mart Center box office or Ticketmaster.
