National chain offering free Kobe Bryant-related embroidery. There’s a store in Fresno

Want a special embroidery to honor Kobe Bryant?

LIDS, the national chain sports store that has five locations in the central San Joaquin Valley, is offering custom Kobe-related embroidery on any hat.

Old cap or new cap.

And, it’s free.

LIDS is offering eight different Kobe designs to honor the basketball legend, who died with his daughter Gianna and seven others during a helicopter crash Sunday in Southern California.

The designs include either Bryant’s No. 8 or No. 24 jersey number that he wore with the Los Angeles Lakers, along with angels wings, a heart, the shape of California or a basketball.

“ At a time when the world is mourning this tremendous loss, we feel this is the perfect way for Lids to do our part to honor Kobe,” a LIDS spokesman said.

The promotion started Tuesday.

But because of immediate high demand for the free Kobe embroidery, LIDS stopped accepting hats for the promotion until after Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Customers are limited to one hat and one design. There is a cost for any additional design or hat.

No time frame has been established when the promotion will end.

The stores in Fresno and Visalia confirmed they are participating in the promotion.

The LIDS store in Tulare said it started charging $11.99 on Friday for Kobe-related embroidery.
