Let’s do it again. Raiders’ Derek Carr is excited for one more season in Oakland
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr got his wish: one more season in Oakland and the opportunity to give fans a proper sendoff.
“Obviously, we are thrilled to play in Oakland for another year,” Carr told The Bee recently. “Just to have another opportunity to win a championship ... that is always the goal and at the forefront of my mind heading into a season.”
The Raiders (4-12) thought that maybe their last game in Oakland was the 27-14 victory over the Denver Broncos on Christmas night. Carr ran around the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and greeted fans to thank them for being loyal.
But the Oakland City Council voted Thursday to approve a lease for 2019 with an option for 2020, giving the Raiders a chance to turn things around before moving to Las Vegas.
There’s been a lot of change in the offseason with the trade for Antonio Brown from the Pittsburgh Steelers plus adding notable free agents wide receiver Tyrell Williams, tackle Trent Brown, safety Lamarcus Joyner and linebacker Vontaze Burfict.
The Raiders could play in the Coliseum in 2020 if the Las Vegas stadium is delayed.
