NCAA track and field: Prandini (200), Alexander (triple jump) among finalists

University of Oregon and ex-Clovis High star Jenna Prandini will again compete in three individual events at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, adding the 200 on Saturday to the 100 and long jump that she previously qualified for at the Division I West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas.

Prandini, who was a top-three medalist in all three events at the NCAA finals last season, ran 22.98 in the 200 to place second in her heat and third overall. Texas A&M’s Kamaria Brown ran the fastest time in 22.50. Prandini’s season-best of 10.92 in the 100 is tied for the fastest in the world in 2015.

The finals will be Oregon’s Hayward Field for a third straight year, this time from June 10-13.

Among others punching their tickets:

▪ Long Beach State triple jumper Willie Alexander (Central), third in 51-11

▪ Oregon 1,500 runner Blake Haney (Stockdale), fourth in 3:24.75

▪ The Fresno State 1,600 relay of Kyra Johnson, Dezirae Johnson, Nailah Harris-Murillo and Njeri Omawahleh, 11th in 3:35.34.

Brigham Young’s Alyssa Monteverde-Dalton (Clovis West) just missed qualifying in the 100 hurdles, finishing 13th in 13.44 with the top 12 advancing.

Fresno State’s Annemarie Schwanz was 18th in the 5,000 in 16:30.10.
