Fresno City drops home football opener
The Fresno City College football home opener didn’t exactly go the way coach Tony Caviglia would have liked.
The Rams had just two opportunities in the red zone and their quarterbacks combined for five interceptions and Santa Rosa took full advantage.
The Bears Cubs got a 25-yard pick-six interception return by Henry Stelzner in the second quarter and opened the second half with a Rodson Kealohi 7-yard touchdown reception from Mitch Hood for a 17-13 victory over the Rams in a nonconference game at Ratcliffe Stadium on Saturday.
Fresno City starting quarterback Anthony Monken competed 22 of 46 for 224 yards and a touchdown but threw four interceptions. Backup Andrew Zimmerman also threw an interception.
Fresno City (1-1) will go on the road next Saturday to face San Mateo (2-0) at 2 p.m.
Elsewhere – College of the Sequoias came from behind and defeated Feather River 28-21. The Giants (2-0) trailed 21-13 at halftime.
▪ Reedley fell to 0-2 after a 52-39 loss to Mendocino (2-0).
▪ Los Medanos defeated West Hills 27-22. The Falcons dropped to 0-2.
