7 ways you can keep freeways clean

The Fresno Bee’s editorial Aug. 7 nailed it. The freeways are full of weeds and trash and something needs to be done.

CalTrans and the city of Fresno either can’t or won’t spend the money to maintain the right of way without borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. Besides not throwing your fast-food trash and cigarette butts out the windows and checking truck beds for trash that can fly out, there are some other things individuals can do.

▪  Vote no to change the ban on plastic bags.

▪  Support legislation to require open truck bed loads to be covered.

▪  Encourage car makers to put ashtrays back in automobiles.

▪  Admit that fixing potholes and keeping roadways clean may require all of us paying a little more for road maintenance and litter cleanup.

By the way, Measure C provides each city and the County of Fresno with funds to spend on transportation any way they see fit. Maybe highway cleanup doesn’t have the highest priority.
