Austin Quarry plan is a nightmare
The Vulcan-proposed Austin Quarry in Madera County at highways 41 and 145 will affect millions of people a year traveling on these roads; not just us residents who are down gradient from this horrific possibility.
Quarry trucks will be leaving their proposed facility, one truck every 30 seconds heading down highways 41 or 145. It is a misnomer that Vulcan will pay for a third lane on Highway 41. That is Caltrans’ sole responsibility with no plans forthcoming.
The Valley is in a severe drought, with everyone on water restrictions, yet somehow there is enough water for Vulcan to strip our wells. The planning commissioners approved this quarry for 100 years with no restrictions. You read correctly. One hundred years.
Please, everyone, help us fight this nightmare. Briefly email each of the five Madera County supervisors demanding a “no” vote. They are elected officials and need to vote according to the will of the people. Their addresses are online.
We need everyone opposed to this project to be at the board of supervisors meeting sometime in August. Your presence matters. Please! Check online for date and time. Madera County needs everyone’s support to fight this quarry. Please email today.
