Nobody’s the wiser except the ducks
Jeremy B. White’s article explaining the new California gun laws spelled out the legal procedures for hunters and target shooters.
As I read the new regulations, it became clear the six laws passed last month hit the hunters and sport shooters hard by limiting ammunition buys. It also hit hunting and sport-shooting parents who intended to hand down family heirlooms to sons and daughters. One law even denies close relatives from loaning guns to one another.
What was missing in the article is the effectiveness of writing laws that actually stop or even detour criminals from misusing weapons in the first place.
Duck hunters and sport shooters are not the people committing these terrible crimes those laws are intended to stop. Shotgunning several bad laws is the norm today in California. With legislators’ heads in the clouds and citizens in drive-by mode, nobody’s the wiser except the ducks.
